Hyundai Creta Electric Overview

Updated on March 23, 2026

The Creta Electric is Hyundai's electrified take on its best-selling SUV in India. Built on the same platform as the ICE Creta, it keeps the five-door SUV silhouette but earns a distinct electric identity – a sealed pixelated grille, a charging port with multi-color state-of-charge lighting, active air flaps for aerodynamic efficiency, and aero alloy wheels fitted with low rolling resistance tyres.

Alongside these design changes, two battery choices are available, a 42 kWh pack, and a 51.4 kWh long-range pack, with ARAI-certified ranges of 420 km and 510 km respectively.

Inside, the cabin carries over the ICE Creta's twin 10.25-inch screen setup and generous feature list, adding EV-specific touches like paddle-operated regenerative braking, V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality, and a frunk (front storage compartment) on select variants.

Battery and Motor

The Creta Electric is powered by an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), a type of electric motor that uses permanent magnets in the rotor for high efficiency and a wide, usable power range. In the 42 kWh variant, it produces 133 hp. The 51.4 kWh long-range variant uses a more powerful version of the same motor type, rated at 169 hp.

In both cases, power is sent to the front wheels through a single-speed reduction gear. As with all EVs, this eliminates gearshifts and enables immediate torque response from a standstill. The batteries are liquid-cooled lithium-ion packs, to regulate temperature for consistent performance, with long-range variants also featuring a battery heater to maintain efficiency in colder conditions.

Range and Charging

Range figures are ARAI-certified under the MIDC (Modified Indian Driving Cycle) Part 1 + Part 2 cycle, tested on a new battery pack under controlled conditions. The 42 kWh variant is rated at 420 km and the 51.4 kWh long-range variant achieves 510 km.

In terms of charging, both variants use the CCS2 charging standard. According to estimates by Hyundai, using an 11 kW AC fast charger, the 42 kWh pack charges from 10% to 100% in approximately 4 hours, while the 51.4 kWh pack takes around 4 hours 50 minutes for the same.

For faster top-ups, DC fast charging requiring a charger rated above 100 kW / 400 V brings either variant from 10% to 80% in estimated 39 minutes. Note that a portable charging cable is included as standard across all variants.

interior

The Creta Electric's cabin comes in a dual-tone granite gray and dark navy theme across most variants, with leatherette upholstery on most variants and fabric on the base variant. Both rows get height-adjustable headrests, and the rear bench offers 60:40 split folding and two-step reclining. Higher variants add ventilated front seats, a foldable rear seatback table with a device holder, and second-row wireless charging.

In the tech front, the infotainment setup pairs twin 10.25-inch screens, a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen, with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Hyundai Bluelink connected car technology, and JioSaavn integration, while a Bose 8-speaker system is available on select variants.

In terms of practicality, storage highlights include a frunk on select variants, a cooled glovebox on higher variants, dual rear USB-C ports, and a power outlet.

exterior

The Creta Electric measures 4,340 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, and rides on a 2,610 mm wheelbase. It shares its SUV proportions with the ICE Creta but gets a distinct front end – a sealed pixelated graphic grille, quad-beam LED headlamps, and horizon LED DRLs. Additionally, Active Air Flaps (AAF) on the front grille open and close automatically to manage airflow and improve efficiency.

Moving along the side profile, all variants ride on 215/60 R17 aero alloy wheels with low rolling resistance tyres. The charging port, positioned where a fuel filler would conventionally sit, features multi-color surround lighting that displays the state of charge at a glance, a premium touch increasingly found on new and upcoming electric models. The C-pillar lighting arch is a distinctive visual element across the range.

Towards the rear, higher variants add LED tail lamps with sequential turn indicators, an integrated roof rail, and a body-color rear spoiler.

safety

The Creta Electric comes with six airbags standard across all variants – driver, passenger, side, and curtain. Active safety includes ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill-start Assist Control, Hill Descent Control, and highline tyre pressure monitoring.

Higher variants add Hyundai SmartSense ADAS, featuring Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist for cars, pedestrians, cyclists, junction turning and direct oncoming scenarios, including Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Following Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance, among others. A dashcam is included on select variants.

Regarding formal crash test ratings, a 2022 Global NCAP test exists for the ICE Creta in a two-airbag configuration, returning 3 stars for both adult and child occupant protection but those results cannot be applied to this vehicle, which carries a materially different safety specification.

competition

Creta Electric’s closest rivals in its segment are the Mahindra BE 6, and Tata Curvv EV.

BE 6’s 79kWh battery delivers an ARAI-certified 682km and supports faster DC charging than the Creta Electric. In top-spec, it also adds features like augmented reality-based heads-up display, a selfie camera, and auto park assist. The Creta Electric counters with a more conventional family-oriented package and a wider, more established service network.

Curvv EV offers 500 litres of boot space against the Creta Electric's 433 litres. Its 55kWh battery also claims a longer MIDC range of 585km. The Creta Electric, however, leads on ADAS breadth and AC charging speed.
