Third-Generation Hyundai Creta Spied Testing for the First Time

The third-generation Hyundai Creta has been spied testing for the first time in South Korea. The heavy camouflage suggests a complete revamp of the compact SUV. Here’s all that could be new and could carry on from the current Creta.

Design Changes

The next-generation Creta looks noticeably boxier and more angular than the current version. It has a squarer stance with a more upright front end. From the side, it looks longer with minimal overhangs, likely translating to a longer wheelbase for more interior room. 

Interestingly, the test mule was sporting the third-generation Kia Seltos’s 18-inch alloy wheels on the rear tyres, pretty much confirming that the new Creta will get 18-inch alloys too. Spy shots reveal flared wheel arches and a flatter roof that tapers slightly toward the back, joining a prominent spoiler, and giving it a more premium feel. Door handles could be flush-type for a cleaner side profile. 

Interior Features

While there are no spy shots of the interior yet, expect an all-new layout with more space and practicality. Features could include advanced connected car tech, a dual-screen display, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree surround view, a Bose audio system, and ventilated seats, among many others. Just like the third-gen Seltos, the Creta too could be well-equipped right from its base variant.

Platform and Safety

The new-generation Creta will use Hyundai Group’s jointly developed new K3 platform, which debuted on the latest Kia Seltos. This platform uses more high-strength steel, aimed at better crash protection and handling, and is expected to significantly improve the current model's three-star Global NCAP rating. 

Standard safety features could include 6 airbags, ESP, disc brakes on all wheels, hill-start assist, TPMS, and rear parking sensors with a camera. Top-end variants will add Level 2 ADAS.

Powertrains

The new Creta’s powertrain options are expected to be carried over from the current model. 

Engine options include a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (115 hp, 144 Nm), a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (160 hp, 253 Nm), and a 1.5-litre diesel (116 hp, 250 Nm). Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual, CVT, 6-speed automatic, or a seven-speed DCT. A 6-speed iMT with the turbo petrol on lower variants cannot be ruled out either, as Kia is offering this engine-gearbox combo with the new Seltos. 

A new, strong hybrid system, combined with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, is expected to join later.

Third-Gen Creta Launch Timeline

Hyundai could be preparing the Creta for a late 2026 or early 2027 launch, as competition in the segment has increased with new models like the new Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, and Renault Duster. 

Prices could be higher than the current model’s ₹11 lakh to ₹20 lakh range, given the significant upgrades. Needless to say, the Creta N-Line and Creta Electric will also receive a facelift.
