Renault Kiger Overview

Updated on April 7, 2026

The Renault Kiger, designed with input from studios in Paris, Chennai and Mumbai, targets buyers seeking stylish proportions, decent space and modern features at an accessible price.

It is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine in two states of tune - a 71 hp naturally aspirated unit and a 99 hp turbocharged variant, with transmission choices ranging from 5-speed manual and Easy-R AMT to X-Tronic CVT, and the car’s fuel efficiency ranging from 17.63-20.38 kmpl.

Styling and features wise, the 2025 facelift brought updated LED lighting with C-shaped tail lamps, new wheel designs, and revised skid plates. Inside, the cabin offers space for five, and a 60/40 split rear seat, complemented by fresh upholstery and ventilated seats in top trims, while the technology is refreshed with a floating touchscreen and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.

On the safety side, equipment includes 6 airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, TPMS, hill-start assist and ISOFIX. It also previously scored a 4 star adult occupant protection rating in Global NCAP crash tests.

Engine and Performance

The Kiger is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. The naturally aspirated unit produces 71 hp at 6,250 rpm and 96 Nm of torque between 3,400 and 3,600 rpm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or an Easy-R automated manual transmission (AMT).

The turbocharged variant produces 99 hp, with peak torque of 160 Nm on the manual and 152 Nm between 2,200 and 4,400 rpm on the CVT. The gearbox options here are a 5-speed manual or an X-Tronic CVT.

fuel economy

ARAI-certified mileage for the Kiger petrol variants ranges between 17.63 kmpl and 20.38 kmpl. Manual transmission variants achieve up to 20.38 kmpl, while automatic variants (AMT or CVT) return up to 19.83 kmpl.

Also, the fuel tank capacity is 40 litres across all variants.

interior

The Kiger’s dashboard has a high centre console with an armrest and storage that changes from open in base trims to closed and mystery-black finished higher up, accented by chrome knobs on air vents and dual-tone or light-embossed fabric or leatherette upholstery.

From the driver's seat, the 3-spoke steering wheel gets premium leatherette wrapping and mounted audio, phone and cluster controls in upper trims.

Digital interfaces begin with an instrument cluster that uses an 8.9 cm LED unit in lower trims and upgrades to a 17.78 cm multi-skin drive-mode display with rotary command in the top trim. This is paired with a 20.32 cm floating touchscreen from the second trim onward, offering Bluetooth and wired or wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Meanwhile, audio is delivered via 4 speakers or a 3D Arkamys system with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters at the top.

Regarding comfort, the front seats include adjustable headrests, driver height adjustment, a passenger seatback pocket and ventilated cushions in top trims. For those in the back, the rear bench offers a new 60/40 split with adjustable headrests, a centre armrest with cup holders, rear AC vents and power windows.

Finally, rear room lighting, a parcel shelf and a cooled glovebox improve overall practicality.

exterior

The Kiger measures 3,990mm long and 1,750mm wide, with a ground clearance of 205mm. Up front, it displays LED DRLs that run day and night, tri-octa LED pure-vision headlamps from the third trim, new fog lamps at the top and black or silver skid plates.

Along the side, the body gets mystery-black ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, electrically adjustable and power-folding mirrors, and body cladding options. These are paired with 40.64 cm wheels that range from steel with covers to styled flex or evasion diamond-cut alloys, alongside satin silver roof rails or 50 kg load-rated roof bars.

At the rear, it gets new C-shaped signature LED tail lamps, a sporty spoiler, and a rear skid plate.

Finally, the exterior is finished with a tailgate chrome insert on turbo variants and red brake calipers on turbo models.

safety

The Kiger earned a 4-star (12.34 out of 17) adult occupant protection rating and 2-star (21.05 out of 49) child occupant protection rating in Global NCAP crash tests conducted on the base 2 airbag trim.

Safety equipment across the range includes 6 airbags, paired with ABS with EBD and brake assist, an electronic stability programme, traction control, and hill-start assist.

Occupant security is further managed by 3-point seatbelts for all seats, front and rear seat belt reminders, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and rear door child locks.

Additionally, everyday driving awareness and utility are supported by a tyre pressure monitoring system, speed alert, speed-sensing door locks, impact-sensing unlock, and rear parking sensors.

competition

The Kiger’s closest rivals in its segment are the Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

Against the Magnite, the Kiger stands out with its larger 405-litre boot space compared to the Magnite’s 336 litres. It also features distinctive C-shaped LED tail lamps and slightly different exterior styling. Conversely the Magnite undercuts the Kiger slightly on entry-level pricing, while both offer comparable ride quality tuned for Indian roads.

The Venue gets larger 1.2-litre petrol and optional diesel engines, along with stronger brand perception and a more upmarket cabin feel in many trims. However, the Kiger counters effectively with its higher 205 mm ground clearance (Venue sits lower), bigger boot capacity, and broader availability of 6 airbags plus active safety aids like ESP and TPMS even in lower variants.

The Sonet gets premium interior finishes and a feature-rich cabin (including ADAS in higher trims). Whereas the Kiger leads on practical aspects such as superior 205 mm ground clearance for bad roads, the segment’s largest 405-litre boot among direct rivals, and the addition of ventilated seats in top trims.
