Tata Curvv EV Overview

Tata Curvv EV is a mid-size coupe-SUV designed to combine style and premium experience. It comes in Creative, Accomplished, and Empowered trims with 45 kWh or 55 kWh battery options. Tata focuses on safety, feature-rich cabin, and distinctive design.

engine and performance

The Tata Curvv EV gives you a choice of battery sizes, both powering a front-wheel-drive electric motor:

  • Medium Range (45 kWh): This setup promises a solid ARAI-certified range of up to 502 km, with the motor putting out a healthy 148 bhp and 215 Nm of torque.
  • Long Range (55 kWh): Go for this one, and you're looking at an impressive ARAI range of up to 585 km, along with a more potent 165 bhp motor that still delivers 215 Nm of torque.

Both come with a smooth automatic transmission and offer different driving modes (Eco, City, Sport) to help you balance range and driving fun. The Long Range version can zip from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 8.6 seconds, with a top speed capped at 160 km/h. A neat feature is the four-level adjustable regenerative braking, controlled with paddles behind the steering wheel, letting you fine-tune how much energy you recover and giving you more control over your driving. Charging is flexible, from a standard home socket to a faster 7.2kW AC wall box, and it supports DC fast charging – the 55 kWh battery can go from 10% to 80% in around 40 minutes using a 70kW DC charger.

Ride and Handling

The Tata Curvv EV prioritizes a comfortable ride, soaking up most of the bumps and ruts you'll encounter in the city. The suspension, a mix of McPherson struts up front and a twist beam at the rear, strikes a good balance between keeping things smooth and feeling planted. The steering has a nice weight to it and gives you a decent sense of what the front wheels are doing, making city maneuvering a breeze.

That instant electric torque means acceleration feels quick, especially when you switch to Sport mode. Like many EVs, the ride can feel a touch firm, mainly due to the weight of the battery pack, but it settles down nicely on the highway and doesn't feel too wobbly around corners. The ground clearance – 190 mm for the 45 kWh and 186 mm for the 55 kWh – is reassuring when you encounter those inevitable speed bumps and less-than-perfect road surfaces.

interior

Step inside the Curvv EV, and you'll find an interior aiming for a more upscale vibe. The dashboard has a thoughtful, layered design, often with soft-touch leatherette and distinctive blue stitching that's become a Tata EV signature. There's plenty of room for five, though taller folks in the back might notice the sloping roof nibbling a little at headroom. The real eye-catchers are the dual digital displays – either two 10.25-inch screens or upgraded to dual 12.3-inch units on higher trims – one for the slick infotainment (with wireless phone connectivity) and the other for the driver's info.

A panoramic sunroof with voice control floods the cabin with light, and features like ventilated front seats, automatic climate control with touch-sensitive buttons, rear AC vents, and a fantastic 9-speaker JBL sound system elevate the experience. The four-spoke steering wheel with its illuminated Tata logo feels good in hand and packs all the essential controls. While rear seat comfort is generally good for two, that sloping roof does impact the view out. The boot offers a generous 500 liters of space, expanding with the 60:40 split rear seats, and some top-tier models even get a small frunk for extra bits and bobs.

exterior

Let's be honest, the Curvv EV's silhouette is its calling card. That coupe-inspired roofline isn't subtle; it swoops dramatically towards the rear, giving it a dynamic and almost wind-cheating appearance. Up front, there's a familiar Tata EV face, a bit like the Nexon EV but with its own EV-focused grille inserts and the all-important charging port.

The split headlamp design is sharp, with those slim LED daytime running lights, bright LED projectors, and cornering fog lamps. A continuous LED light bar across both the front and rear screams modern EV. Those flush door handles that pop out with a welcoming glow? A nice touch of premium. Looking at the side, that sloping roof is the star, complemented by stylish 18-inch alloys (depending on the model). At the rear, the connected LED tail lamps flow beautifully with the coupe shape, and the powered tailgate with gesture control on higher trims adds a dash of convenience.

safety

Tata has made safety a big deal with the Curvv EV, and it shows with a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating for both adult and child occupants. You get six airbags as standard, along with ABS, EBD, and ESP. Step up the trims, and you get Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), which includes handy features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking, plus blind spot detection and a high-resolution 360-degree camera.

Other safety kit includes all-disc brakes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, hill start and descent assist, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX points for child seats.

competition

The Tata Curvv EV is stepping into a relatively unique corner of the Indian EV market as one of the first electric coupe-SUVs in its class. It'll be vying for attention against other premium electric SUVs in its price bracket, like the MG ZS EV, and potentially upcoming rivals such as the Hyundai Creta EV and Mahindra BE.05. It also has to win over buyers who might be considering the higher-spec versions of the Tata Nexon EV. Its distinctive styling and a cabin packed with features are its main weapons in this battle.

final verdict

The Tata Curvv EV is a stylish and compelling electric vehicle that dares to be different with its coupe-SUV design. It backs up its looks with a well-equipped interior, promising range figures, and a strong focus on safety. While the sloping roofline might mean a bit less headroom in the back for some, the overall package is a modern and desirable EV for those who want to make an eco-conscious statement. With its competitive pricing and a generous list of features, the Curvv EV has the potential to carve out a significant space for itself in the growing Indian electric car market.
