Hyundai's Upcoming EV Spotted Testing Ahead of India Launch - What to Expect?

Hyundai seems to be working on a new compact electric SUV for the Indian market.

Team CarHP India spotted this EV undergoing testing in Chandigarh, pointing towards an imminent launch.

Likely to be based on the Hyundai Inster sold in international markets, it will sit below the Creta Electric in Hyundai India's EV lineup.

The test vehicle was covered in heavy black camouflage, but the glimpses still offered a good idea about its design. The EV has a tall-boy stance with a boxy and bold look. This particular unit featured sleek horizontal LED taillamps, flush door handles and roof rails.

Though not visible in the spy shots, expect the fascia of this EV to get sleek LED DRLs and a closed-off grille, with the headlights positioned on the bumper. It could sport body cladding all around, riding on aero-optimised alloy wheels.

This EV could use a single electric motor that drives the front wheels. Expect medium and long-range battery pack options, delivering around 400 to 500 km of range respectively, along with quick acceleration figures.

The new electric SUV will target the busy sub-4-metre segment. Judging by its mini SUV profile, this EV will directly rival the Tata Punch EV and the Citroen eC3.

Hyundai could launch this EV in India in 2027.
