Tata Punch Overview

Tata has given the Punch its first major facelift since 2021, with styling inspired by the Punch EV and newer models like the Nexon. It stays compact at around 3.8 meters long, perfect for city driving and tight parking, yet feels like a proper mini-SUV with high ground clearance and bold stance. The lineup simplifies to six variants: Smart, Pure, Pure Plus, Adventure, Accomplished, and Accomplished Plus S.

engine and performance

The big news is the addition of a turbo-petrol option: a 1.2-liter turbo engine delivering around 120 PS power and 170 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual for lively performance and better highway overtakes. The standard setup remains the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol (about 88 PS and 115 Nm), available with 5-speed manual or AMT, plus the efficient CNG variant (twin-cylinder tech, around 26-27 km/kg claimed). Driving modes (Eco, City), idle start-stop, and paddle shifters on some trims help with efficiency and fun. It handles city traffic nimbly with 187mm ground clearance, while the turbo adds pep for longer drives.

interior

Inside, it feels more premium with a dual-tone blue and grey theme, better seat upholstery, and refreshed elements. The dashboard layout is familiar but upgraded with a new two-spoke steering wheel featuring an illuminated Tata logo, touch-based climate controls, and a center console with armrest.

You get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and connected features via iRA), a 7-inch digital instrument cluster (part-digital in some views), auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charger on top trims, and ventilated seats in higher ones. Space is practical for four adults, with good boot capacity (around 366 liters in petrol, less in CNG due to cylinders). Rear AC vents, adjustable headrests, and thoughtful touches like Xpress Cool make it family-friendly.

exterior

The front gets a bolder makeover with slimmer LED DRLs, repositioned LED headlamps, a redesigned grille, and a more aggressive bumper with black cladding and silver accents for that tough SUV vibe. New air curtains and skid plates add to the rugged appeal. At the rear, connected LED tail-lights with a full-width light bar sit in black trim, along with updated Tata lettering.

Alloy wheels are fresh (diamond-cut or two-tone designs on higher trims, up to 16 inches), faux roof rails and pillar-mounted rear handles stay, and you get six color choices including vibrant new ones like Cyantafic Blue, Caramel Yellow, Bengal Rouge, Coorg Clouds Silver, Daytona Grey, and Pristine White. Dual-tone options continue for extra style.

safety

Tata keeps safety front and center. All variants come with six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX mounts, seatbelt reminders, and central locking. Higher trims add a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, hill descent control, and follow-me-home headlamps. It also has a 5 star rating in both adult and child safety from BNCAP

competition

The Punch still rules the micro-SUV space but faces tough rivals like the Hyundai Exter (strong features and refinement), Nissan Magnite (turbo power and value), Renault Kiger (similar turbo setup), and Citroen C3 (unique styling). It stands out with segment-leading safety, now even more features, the new turbo choice, and Tata's widespread service network.
