Tata Curvv EV Overview

Updated on March 23, 2026

The Curvv EV is Tata's first production vehicle with a fastback, coupe-SUV body style, a silhouette that's been largely absent from India's mainstream EV market. At 4,310 mm in length with a 2,560 mm wheelbase, the EV sits comfortably in the compact SUV bracket while offering a 500-litre boot and, on the top variant, a frunk (front trunk).

Beneath this exterior, built on a purpose-designed EV platform, it is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) in two configurations, a 45 kWh battery producing 148 bhp and a 55 kWh battery producing 165 bhp, both developing 215 Nm of torque.

Additionally, the feature set spans a 31.24 cm HARMAN touchscreen, a JBL sound system with subwoofer, Level 2 ADAS, and on the 55 kWh variant, bidirectional charging that can power external appliances or charge a compatible EV.

Battery and Motor

The Curvv EV uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), a motor type that delivers its full torque almost instantly, with no warm-up lag. Paired with this motor, two battery options are available, a 45 kWh pack producing 148 bhp and 215 Nm, and a 55 kWh pack producing 165 bhp with the same 215 Nm. As a result, both reach 0–100 km/h in 8.6 seconds (55 kWh) and 8.8 seconds (45 kWh) respectively.

To ensure hardware durability, the motor and battery pack are IP67-rated, meaning they're sealed against dust and water immersion up to one metre, while a liquid-cooled thermal management system keeps battery temperature within safe limits.

Range and Charging

The Curvv EV's range is certified under the ARAI MIDC (Modified Indian Driving Cycle) Part 1 + Part 2 test. The 55 kWh battery holds a claimed range of 502 km on a full charge, while Tata estimates real-world range at 400–425 km. The 45 kWh battery is certified at 430 km, with an estimated real-world range of 330–350 km, placing it among the most capable EVs with high real-world range.

To support these ranges, charging is supported via a standard 15A home socket, the included 7.2 kW AC wall box, or a DC fast charger. Tata claims, on a 70 kW+ DC fast charger, the 55 kWh battery charges from 10% to 80% in approximately 40 minutes. Additionally, a full charge via the 7.2 kW wall box takes approximately 7.6 hours (55 kWh) or 7.25 hours (45 kWh).

Lastly, three drive modes (Eco, City, Sport) are standard, and four levels of regenerative braking (0 to 3) are selectable via steering-column paddle shifters. Further maximizing efficiency, a single-pedal drive mode is also supported, allowing the car to decelerate and near-stop through energy recuperation alone.

interior

The cabin's centrepiece on top variants is a 31.24 cm HARMAN touchscreen infotainment system paired with a matching digital instrument cluster. Mid-range variants use a 26.03 cm unit, while the base starts at 17.78 cm.

Complementing these displays, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported across the range, with Amazon Alexa integration and wireless smartphone charging on higher variants. Rounding out the multimedia setup, the top-spec audio is a JBL system with 4 speakers, 4 tweeters, and a dedicated subwoofer.

Focusing on passenger comfort, seating features ErgoWing headrests, a rear centre armrest with cup docks, and Benecke-Kaliko leatherette upholstery on higher variants. Active front seat ventilation and a 2-stage rear recline are available at the top spec. Alongside these additions, rear sunshades, an air purifier, and front/rear 45W USB-C charging ports (on select variants) cover daily comfort needs.

Additionally, addressing practicality, boot space is 500 litres, where the top variant adds a frunk.

exterior

The Curvv EV's defining visual trait is its fastback silhouette, a sloping roofline that produces a coupe-like rear profile uncommon in the compact SUV segment. At 4,310 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,637 mm tall, it sits lower than a conventional SUV while holding its width. Ground clearance is 186 mm (55 kWh) or 190 mm (45 kWh).

The lighting setup varies by variant. Flush door handles and Smart Digital DRLs come standard starting from the entry level, whereas higher variants include LED projector headlamps, connected tail lamps with sequential turn indicators, and front fog lamps with a cornering function. The top variant adds Smart Digital Lights with a welcome and goodbye lighting sequence as well as a charging indicator integrated into the light cluster.

Finally, wheels range from 17-inch steel at the base to R17 and R18 alloys with aero inserts on higher variants, with low rolling resistance tyres standard across all variants.

safety

The Curvv EV earned a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating in 2024, scoring 30.81 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection and 44.83 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection. The frontal offset deformable barrier test returned 15.66 out of 16 and the side movable deformable barrier test scored 15.15 out of 16. The side pole impact test result was rated OK.

Underpinning that rating, all variants come standard with 6 airbags (frontal for driver and front passenger, side chest airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags for all rows), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection, and seat belt reminders for every seat position.

Four-wheel disc brakes with i-VBAC and ISOFIX anchors at the outboard rear seats are also fitted throughout the range.

Lasty, the top variant adds a Level 2 ADAS suite covering AEB for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and junctions, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and Lane Keep Assist, among others safety features.

competition

The Tata Curvv EV goes head-to-head with Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and Maruti e Vitara, in its segment.

The Creta Electric supports up to 11 kW AC charging against the Curvv EV's 7.2 kW, and is available with a dual-motor AWD option the Curvv doesn't offer. The Curvv counters with a larger 500-litre boot versus the Creta Electric's 433-litres, and V2V/V2L bidirectional charging, absent on the Creta.

The BE 6 offers a larger 79 kWh battery option and DC fast charging up to 180 kW, which is far ahead of the Curvv's 70 kW+ support. The Curvv leads on safety credentials with its 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, a test the BE 6 hasn't yet undergone.

The e Vitara is the only rival in this comparison to offer dual motors and all-wheel drive. Whereas the Curvv's established sales track record, Level 2 ADAS, bidirectional charging, and 5-star Bharat NCAP rating give it a head start the e Vitara has yet to match in testing.
