Tata Nexon Comparison with similar Cars

Pros & Cons of Tata Nexon
Things We Like
- Holds 5-star ratings from both Bharat NCAP (2024) and Global NCAP (2024), scoring 29.41/32 and 32.22/34 respectively for adult occupant protection.
- The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCA) is a notably sophisticated transmission for this price band, featuring wet clutch technology with active cooling, machine learning adaptation, and a self-healing mechanism.
Things We Don't Like
- Knee airbags are not available on any variant, a gap that is flagged in the Bharat NCAP safety equipment listing.
- The CNG variant is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission system. No automatic option exists for buyers who want both CNG running costs and a gearbox-free driving experience.
Tata Nexon Overview

Nexon is Tata's well-equipped SUV that is powered by three available powertrain options: a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol producing 118 bhp, a 1.5-litre turbodiesel with 260 Nm of torque, and a turbocharged CNG variant, India's first, delivering approximately 100 bhp in CNG mode. Transmissions range from a 5-speed manual to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The cabin keeps pace with the mechanicals, where higher trims get a 26.03 cm Harman touchscreen, a JBL-branded speaker system, ventilated Benecke-Kaliko leatherette seats, and a voice-operated panoramic sunroof.
Rounding it all out, a 7-feature ADAS suite is available on the top variant.
We've also compared the Tata Nexon against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, covering performance, features, and value.
Engine and Performance
Engine and Performance
Nexon is available with three engine options. Starting with the petrol, it is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged Revotron unit producing 120 bhp and 170 Nm of torque.
Transmission options for this engine include a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCA).
Alternatively, the diesel is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged Revotorq unit, generating 115 bhp and 260 Nm of torque, notably stronger mid-range pull compared to petrol. These diesel variants are offered with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AMT.
Rounding out the lineup, the CNG variant uses a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged Revotorq engine. In CNG mode, it produces approximately 100 bhp and 170 Nm, switching to petrol mode raises output to approximately 120 bhp and 170 Nm.
Unlike the other powertrains, the CNG is available exclusively with a 6-speed manual.
fuel economy
fuel economy
ARAI-certified figures for the 1.2-litre petrol stand at 18.83 kmpl with the 5-speed manual. Alongside this, the 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT return figures in a similar range.
Meanwhile, the 7-speed DCA is rated slightly lower owing to the added complexity of the dual-clutch system.
By comparison, the 1.5-litre diesel is more efficient, with the 6-speed manual returning approximately 24 kmpl.
Turning to alternative fuels, the twin CNG cylinders have a combined fuel capacity is 60 litres, split equally across two 30-litre cylinders. Also, the iCNG variant delivers the lowest running cost, with CNG mileage rated at around 25–26 km/kg.
Across the board, petrol, diesel, and CNG variants all offer Eco, City, and Sport drive modes, which influence real-world consumption depending on usage.
interior

The cabin is built around a horizontal, three-tone dashboard with a leatherette mid-pad.
Taking center stage, infotainment is handled by a 26.03 cm floating Harman touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, paired with a matching 26.03 cm digital instrument cluster featuring Driver Attention Assist.
Below, climate controls use a phygital touch panel (a hybrid of physical and capacitive touch inputs), with Fully Automatic Temperature Control on upper trims.
For passenger comfort, seating on higher variants uses Premium Benecke-Kaliko ventilated leatherette, with 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
Behind this row, boot space measures 382 litres on petrol and diesel models, and 321 litres on the CNG.
Rounding out the interior experience, additional highlights across the range include an air purifier, JBL 9-speaker system with subwoofer, wireless charger, and a voice-operated electric panoramic sunroof.
exterior

At 3,995 mm long with a 2,498 mm wheelbase and 208 mm of ground clearance, the Nexon carries an upright, squared-off stance.
Complementing this body, the front gets sequential LED DRLs and bi-function full LED headlamps, with an air curtain integrated into the lower bumper to aid aerodynamics. Moving to the back, the rear features X-factor LED taillamps with welcome and goodbye lighting animations.
Along the side profile, the vehicle rides on 16-inch wheels, highlighted by available diamond-cut alloys.
Rounding out the exterior, dual-tone roof options are offered across most variants. Roof rails, a shark fin antenna, and body-coloured door handles appear on select trims, while front fog lamps with cornering function.
safety
safety
Nexon holds a 5-star safety rating from both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP. It scored 29.41/32 for adult occupant protection and 43.83/49 for child occupant protection in Bharat NCAP, while Global NCAP awarded it 32.22/34 and 44.52/49 respectively.
Standard safety features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS, seat belt pretensioners, seat belt reminders for all seats, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Higher variants also get an auto-dimming IRVM and a blind view monitor.
The top petrol variant adds ADAS features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, and High Beam Assist, among others. These features are not available on the diesel or CNG variants.
competition
competition
Tata Nexon’s current closest rivals are the new Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
XUV 3XO offers a larger panoramic sunroof, stronger petrol engine options, and a more feature-rich cabin at comparable prices. The Nexon counters with superior crash test credentials and the turbocharged CNG powertrain option.
Venue leads on brand resale value and service network reach. Whereas Nexon holds a clear advantage in crash safety ratings and boot space (382 L vs 350 L).
While Brezza has stronger fuel efficiency and resale value, Nexon offers more powertrain diversity and significantly stronger NCAP safety scores.
