Pros & Cons of Tata Sierra EV

Things We Like

  • Impressive specifications overall, with better claimed range and quicker acceleration than the Harrier EV.
  • The sub-6-second 0 to 100 km/h sprint is seriously quick.

Tata Sierra EV Overview

Updated June 30, 2026

The Tata Sierra EV marks the return of one of India's most iconic SUV nameplates in a modern electric form. Built on Tata's Acti.ev+ architecture, the Sierra EV combines the styling of the recently launched Sierra ICE with the battery packs, motors and EV technology from the Harrier EV.

Ahead of its launch, the SUV also showcased its off-road credentials by successfully climbing the Tal Moreeb sand dune, one of the world's tallest sand dunes.

Buyers can choose between two battery pack options, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and a claimed driving range of up to 665 km, making it one of Tata's most capable electric SUVs to date. It enters the premium compact electric SUV segment where it takes on rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti e Vitara, Toyota Ebella and VinFast VF7.

Battery and Motor

The Tata Sierra EV is available with two battery pack options and three drivetrain configurations. The entry-level version uses a 63 kWh battery paired with a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 238 PS and 315 Nm of torque, delivering a claimed MIDC range of 565 km.

Stepping up to the larger 75 kWh battery, the rear-wheel-drive version produces 209 PS and 315 Nm while extending the claimed range to 665 km, making it the longest-range Sierra EV available.

The flagship variant combines the 75 kWh battery with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. The rear motor develops 209 PS while the front motor contributes another 140 PS, producing a combined torque output of 504 Nm. This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds while offering a claimed MIDC range of 624 km

Range and Charging

The Sierra EV supports up to 120 kW DC fast charging, allowing both 75 kWh variants to charge from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 26 minutes. The 63 kWh battery completes the same charging cycle in around 25 minutes.

For home charging, Tata offers a 7.2 kW AC wall charger as an optional accessory priced at Rs 49,000, while a 3.3 kW portable charger is also supported for greater convenience. Depending on the battery pack and drivetrain, the Sierra EV delivers a claimed MIDC range of between 565 km and 665 km.

interior

Inside, the Sierra EV shares its overall dashboard design with the Sierra ICE but adopts a more premium ambience with EV-specific upholstery and finishes. The dashboard uses soft-touch materials along with contrasting textures, while a three-screen layout dominates the cabin. Shared elements include the four-spoke steering wheel, centre console, air-conditioning vents and door trims.

The seats receive a new dual-tone upholstery with darker upper sections, while all occupants get adjustable headrests. The driver's seat is electrically adjustable and comes with a memory function. Both front seats are ventilated, and rear passengers benefit from dedicated AC vents, USB Type-C charging ports, a centre armrest and manual sunshades.

The gloss black touch-based climate control panel gives the cabin a modern appearance, although it relies entirely on touch controls.

Technology is one of the Sierra EV's biggest strengths. It comes equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch passenger entertainment display and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster.

Other features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, wireless phone charging, an NFC card key, dual-zone climate control, an air purifier, gesture-controlled powered tailgate, Boss Mode for the front passenger seat, ventilated and six-way power-adjustable front seats with memory, rear window sunshades and a 12-speaker JBL premium audio system.

EV-specific additions include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, DrivePay in-car payments, Summon Mode, Auto Park Assist, multiple terrain modes and Boost Mode.

exterior

The Tata Sierra EV retains the unmistakable silhouette of the new Sierra while receiving several EV-specific styling updates. At the front, it gets a clean and futuristic face with a slim full-width LED light bar running across the width of the vehicle. Unlike the ICE Sierra, which features a gloss black grille, the electric version replaces it with a body-coloured closed-off panel that gives the front end a cleaner appearance.

The vertically stacked LED headlamps are positioned lower on the bumper, while a large black bumper insert and silver skid plate add contrast and ruggedness.

Viewed from the side, the Sierra EV continues with its tall, upright proportions, flat roofline and signature Alpine rear quarter windows inspired by the original Sierra. The floating roof effect is created by blacked-out A, C and D pillars, while the B-pillar remains body coloured. Flush-fitting door handles, black roof rails, thick body cladding around the wheel arches and lower doors, and 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels further enhance its premium look.

At the rear, the design remains clean and minimalist with a wide tailgate and another slim full-width LED light bar connecting the LED tail lamps. Sierra.ev lettering is positioned neatly below the light strip, while the lower bumper features black cladding and a silver skid plate similar to the front.

The Sierra EV measures 4,340 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width and 1,715 mm in height, with a 2,730 mm wheelbase and 205 mm of ground clearance. It is offered in seven exterior colours, namely Nainital Nocturne, Rishikesh Rapids, Bengal Rouge, Andaman Adventure, Pristine White, Coorg Cloud and Pure Grey. Nainital Nocturne is exclusive to the all-wheel-drive variant.

Practicality is another highlight, with a 622-litre boot complemented by a front storage compartment. Rear-wheel-drive variants offer a 55-litre frunk, while the dual-motor AWD version gets a slightly smaller 35-litre frunk due to the additional front motor.

safety

Safety equipment is comprehensive across the range. The Sierra EV comes equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, all-wheel disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat anchors and a 540-degree surround-view camera that includes a transparent bonnet view for improved visibility over rough terrain.

It also features Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), bringing functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, autonomous emergency braking and other active safety technologies to the SUV.

competition

The Tata Sierra EV enters the highly competitive premium electric SUV segment, where it takes on several established and upcoming rivals. The Hyundai Creta Electric appeals to buyers looking for a practical, feature-rich electric SUV backed by Hyundai's extensive sales and service network.

The Mahindra BE 6 stands out with its futuristic styling, powerful electric powertrains and one of the longest feature lists in the segment. The Maruti e Vitara and its Toyota sibling, the Toyota Ebella, focus on reliability, brand trust and everyday usability, making them strong alternatives for family buyers.

Meanwhile, the VinFast VF7 offers a premium cabin, generous equipment and an available all-wheel-drive setup, giving buyers another capable option in the growing electric SUV market. With competitive pricing, a claimed range of up to 665 km, dual battery options and AWD availability, the Sierra EV positions itself as one of the most well-rounded choices in the segment.

Tata Sierra EV FAQs

Smart Summon is a remote parking feature that allows the Tata Sierra EV to move forward or backward without anyone sitting inside the vehicle. Using the key fob or smartphone app, owners can bring the SUV out of a tight parking space or move it into one, making it easier to access the cabin in cramped parking lots. The system operates at low speeds and uses the SUV's cameras and sensors to detect obstacles, automatically stopping if it encounters anything in its path.
The most affordable Sierra EV is the Pure 63 kWh RWD variant, priced at Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes with a 63 kWh battery pack, a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 238 PS and 315 Nm of torque, and a claimed driving range of 565 km.
Power output depends on the variant. The 63 kWh rear-wheel-drive model produces 238 PS and 315 Nm, while the 75 kWh rear-wheel-drive version produces 209 PS and 315 Nm. The top-spec 75 kWh all-wheel-drive variant uses dual electric motors producing 209 PS at the rear and 140 PS at the front, with a combined torque output of 504 Nm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
The Sierra EV supports 120 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 20 to 80 percent in around 26 minutes. Tata also offers an optional 7.2 kW AC home charger, while a 3.3 kW portable charger is supported for charging from a standard power outlet.
The Tata Sierra EV measures 4,340 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width and 1,715 mm in height. It has a 2,730 mm wheelbase and 205 mm of ground clearance.
The Sierra EV is offered in seven exterior colours: Nainital Nocturne, Rishikesh Rapids, Bengal Rouge, Andaman Adventure, Pristine White, Coorg Cloud and Pure Grey. Nainital Nocturne is exclusive to the all-wheel-drive variant.
The Tata Sierra EV starts at Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Tata Harrier EV starts at Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the Sierra EV Rs 2.70 lakh more affordable than the Harrier EV at the entry level.
Bookings for the Tata Sierra EV are now open. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin from July 15, 2026.
The Tata Sierra EV offers a claimed MIDC range of up to 665 km. The 63 kWh battery delivers a claimed range of 565 km, the 75 kWh rear-wheel-drive version offers 665 km, while the 75 kWh dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant has a claimed range of 624 km.
The Tata Sierra EV has not been crash tested by Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP yet, so it does not have an official safety rating. However, it comes equipped with six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, a 540-degree surround-view camera with transparent bonnet view, electronic stability control (ESC), all-wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto hold, TPMS, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and front and rear parking sensors.
The 75 kWh RWD Sierra EV produces 209 PS, compared to the 238 PS output of the 63 kWh version. This is because the 75 kWh RWD model uses the same rear motor as the AWD Sierra EV, where the rear motor is also rated at 209 PS.
