Pros & Cons of Toyota Taisor

Things We Like

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available from the mid variant, not just the higher variants.
  • The factory-fitted CNG option carries an ARAI rating of 28.51 km/kg, providing one of the more fuel-efficient drivetrains in the segment.
  • Both the 1.2L petrol and the 1.0L turbo come with an idle start-stop system.
  • 60:40 split-folding rear seats are standard on all variants.

Things We Don't Like

  • The 360-degree camera, head-up display, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and UV-cut glass are all locked to the top variant.
  • The CNG variant is limited to the base variant with a 5-speed manual only.
  • Rear AC vents and a height-adjustable driver seat are absent on low and mid-range variants.
  • At 308 litres, the boot capacity is on the tighter end for a five-seater crossover, and can feel constrained on longer trips with all five seats occupied.

Toyota Taisor Overview

Updated on March 16, 2026

The Toyota Taisor is a sub-4-metre crossover SUV measuring 3,995 mm in length on a 2,520 mm wheelbase, sized for India's urban roads without giving up highway usability.

Powering it up, three powertrains are available, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, the same engine in a factory-fitted CNG configuration, and a more potent 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol. Whereas gearbox options span a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.

Additionally, automatic climate control, six airbags, and VSC are standard across the board. The top variant adds a 9-inch touchscreen, 360-degree surround camera, head-up display, and Toyota's iCONNECT telematics.

engine and performance

The Taisor comes with three engine options. The first is a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder K-Series Dual Jet petrol with Dual VVT (variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust camshafts), producing 88.5 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.

The above engine is also available in a factory-fitted CNG configuration, where output drops to 76.4 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 98.5 Nm at 4,300 rpm, a typical trade-off for bi-fuel setups. Note that the CNG variant is only offered with a 5-speed manual.

The third option is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder K-Series turbocharged petrol making 98.7 bhp at around 5,500 rpm and 147.6 Nm between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. It pairs with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.

fuel economy

All figures are ARAI-rated. The 1.2L CNG variant leads at 28.51 km/kg.
The 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol returns 22.79 km/l with the 5-speed AMT and 21.71 km/l with the manual. The 1.0L turbo is rated at 21.18 km/l (manual) and 19.86 km/l (6-speed automatic).

In terms of capacity, fuel tank capacity is 37 litres on all petrol variants, the CNG variant pairs that 37-litre petrol tank with a 55-litre (water equivalent) CNG cylinder. The 1.2L petrol and 1.0L turbo both get an idle start-stop system.

Finally, the turbo additionally features regenerative braking (energy recovery during deceleration) and electric torque assist during acceleration, both aimed at closing the gap between claimed and real-world efficiency.

interior

The Taisor's cabin gets a dual-tone finish across all variants, with premium fabric seats and headrest adjustment at all five positions.

Complementing the cabin, a flat-bottom steering wheel is standard throughout the range and gains tilt-and-telescopic adjustment on higher trims. Driver-seat height adjustment and a sliding front centre armrest are also offered on upper variants.

Practicality is straightforward with the 308-litre boot space, which is backed by 60:40 split-folding rear seats, fitted across the lineup.

On the tech front, a 7-inch Smartplay Cast touchscreen handles infotainment on mid-level variants, offering wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and OTA updates. Higher trims upgrade to a 9-inch unit with ARKAMYS surround sound, wireless charging, rear AC vents, fast-charge rear USB-A and USB-C sockets, and Toyota iCONNECT for remote vehicle monitoring and control.

exterior

The Taisor's crossover stance fits within a 3,995 mm length, 1,765 mm width, and 1,550 mm height on a 2,520 mm wheelbase.

Toyota's signature grille with chrome garnish anchors the front, while a roof-end spoiler, shark-fin antenna, and front and rear skid plates round out the styling. Wheel arch, side door, and underbody cladding complete the light off-road aesthetic without going overboard.

The lighting setup follows a similar progression across the range. Headlamps start as halogen projectors on base variants and step up to LED multi-reflectors with twin LED DRLs and integrated turn indicators on higher variants. At the rear, the connected LED lamp cluster gets its centre section illuminated on upper variants.

Lastly, the wheels are 195/60 R16, ranging from steel with covers to painted and machined alloy designs depending on the variant.

safety

Every Taisor variant, including the base, is equipped with six airbags, dual front plus side and curtain, along with ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Hold Assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and rear parking sensors with an infographic display.

Three-point ELR seat belts are fitted at all five seating positions, and active seat-belt reminders cover the driver, co-driver, and rear passengers.

Higher up the range, top variants add a rearview camera, while the topmost exclusively gets a 360-degree surround-view camera and a head-up display. Anti-theft security is fitted from the mid variant upward.

competition

Mahindra’s XUV 3XO and Kia’s Kylaq and Sonet are Taisor’s closest rivals in the segment.

Kylaq’s 1.0-litre turbo produces 113 hp and 178 Nm, which is 15 hp and 30 Nm more than the Taisor's equivalent unit. It also offers a 446-litre boot, ventilated and powered front seats, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The Taisor counters with a factory CNG option and Toyota's after-sales network.

XUV 3XO’s 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol makes the highest power and torque in the segment, and offers ADAS. The Taisor holds the edge in fuel-option breadth and efficiency.

Sonet matches the Taisor closely on features but pairs its stronger 118 bhp turbo with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic rather than a torque-converter. The Taisor's CNG availability and standard-across-all-variants airbag count remain genuine differentiators.
