October 2025 emerged as one of the strongest months for India’s passenger vehicle industry, with every major automaker benefiting from festive demand and GST 2.0 tax benefits. Domestic sales surged across categories, led by hatchbacks and SUVs, while exports also showed robust growth.

Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra topped the charts, while EVs and hybrids recorded their best monthly performance yet

Maruti Suzuki

In October 2025, Maruti Suzuki reaffirmed its leadership in India’s passenger vehicle market by dispatching 176,318 units domestically, marking a 10.48% year-on-year growth from 159,591 units in October 2024. The surge came amid festive enthusiasm and GST 2.0 reforms that reduced prices for compact cars.

The company also supplied 8,915 units to Toyota Kirloskar Motor through its OEM partnership and exported 31,304 units, boosting overall momentum. Top performers such as the Swift, Baleno, and Brezza drove nearly 80% of incremental volume, helped by strategic discounting.

With a strong recovery post-monsoon and a broad lineup spanning hatchbacks and SUVs, Maruti is well-positioned to maintain its dominance through FY26.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors recorded its highest-ever monthly passenger vehicle wholesales for the second straight month in October 2025, with 61,295 units sold - up 26.6% from 48,423 units a year ago. Festive demand and GST 2.0 benefits on compact cars fuelled this momentum.

Retail sales reached 74,705 units, securing second place ahead of Mahindra and Hyundai. SUVs contributed over 47,000 units, while EV sales surged 73.4% to 9,286 units, led by the Nexon and Punch.

A strong 81% shipment jump from September highlighted Tata’s versatile lineup  - from Tiago to Curvv, reinforcing its 40.9% EV market share and leadership in India’s SUV-driven growth story.

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra achieved record domestic SUV sales of 71,624 units in October 2025, representing a 31% year-on-year growth. Retail registrations reached 66,800 units, placing Mahindra third behind Tata and Maruti. Key models such as Scorpio, XUV700, and Thar continued to dominate, reflecting strong dealer demand.

Hyundai Motor India

Hyundai Motor India reported 53,792 domestic sales in October 2025, navigating intense competition during the festive season. Though overall dispatches dipped 3.2% year-on-year, exports rose 11% to 16,102 units. Retail figures reached 65,045 units, putting Hyundai fourth after outselling Mahindra but trailing Tata.

The Creta and Venue together accounted for 30,119 units, reflecting continued SUV strength amid GST 2.0 incentives. Despite growing pressure from local rivals, Hyundai’s technological advantage and hybrid offerings maintained its brand appeal.

Kia India

Kia India achieved its best-ever monthly performance in October 2025 with 29,556 units sold, up 30% year-on-year from 22,735 units. The Seltos and Sonet led the charge, while the Carens added steady MPV volume. Festive momentum and GST 2.0 tax benefits boosted affordability, helping Kia outpace many competitors.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor

Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered 42,892 total sales in October 2025, a 39% year-on-year increase. Domestic sales rose 43% to 40,257 units, while exports contributed 2,635 units.

The inclusion of 8,915 OEM units sourced from Maruti Suzuki supported this growth. Popular models like the Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Urban Cruiser Hyryder continued to attract strong demand.

Skoda Auto India

Skoda Auto India achieved its highest-ever monthly sales in October 2025 with 8,252 units, up 102.3% from 4,079 units in October 2024. The sub-4m Kylaq SUV, along with the Kushaq and Slavia, played a crucial role in this growth. Cumulative January-October sales reached 61,607 units, surpassing the brand’s previous annual record.

The Octavia RS sold out in just 20 minutes, reflecting Skoda’s premium pull. Strong localisation and competitive pricing have strengthened its position in India’s fast-expanding SUV market, signalling renewed momentum for the brand.

Honda Cars India

Honda Cars India posted domestic sales of 6,394 units in October 2025, marking a 15.3% year-on-year rise from 5,546 units. The Elevate SUV and Amaze sedan led sales, while hybrids gained traction among eco-conscious buyers.

MG Motor India

JSW MG Motor India reported 6,397 domestic sales in October 2025, a 20% year-on-year jump. The Windsor EV led the charge, supported by the Hector and Comet, as GST 2.0 reforms improved affordability for electric buyers. MG’s used-car division, MG Select, also saw 62% year-on-year growth. The brand’s 27% YTD growth reflects its rising competitiveness in the EV space.

With upcoming models like the Cyberster and a growing local partnership base, MG is blending British design with Indian manufacturing strength to expand its footprint in the smart mobility segment.

Renault India

Renault India sold 5,041 passenger vehicles in October 2025, slightly up from September’s 4,265 units. Festive offers and GST reductions helped lift demand for core models like the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger. These value-driven vehicles found strong traction in tier-2 and tier-3 markets.

Despite a challenging environment for smaller OEMs, Renault’s localisation efforts and the upcoming relaunch of the Duster, teased for Republic Day 2026, signal renewed intent.

Nissan Motor India

Nissan Motor India reported 2,402 domestic sales in October 2025, down 23% month-on-month, but total sales, including exports, reached 9,675 units - up 73.7% overall. The Magnite SUV remained its strongest model, with new variants like the Kuro Edition driving festive interest. Exports to over 100 global markets helped offset domestic softness.

Nissan’s upcoming lineup, including a B-MPV, the Tekton midsize SUV, and a 7-seater C-SUV by 2027, aims to re-establish its competitive position. Backed by its Renault alliance and focus on value and technology, Nissan is preparing a refreshed push into India’s SUV segment.

Volkswagen India

Volkswagen India sold 5,041 passenger vehicles domestically in October 2025, maintaining steady performance through the festive period. Models like the Taigun and Virtus remained key contributors, supported by Volksfest discounts and GST 2.0 price adjustments.

The brand’s cumulative FY25 volumes neared 40,000 units, underlining its stable foothold in the premium mass-market space. Future plans include a Taigun facelift and new EV models, reflecting VW’s commitment to combining European engineering with India’s growing demand for connected and sustainable vehicles.
