Citroën has refreshed its Basalt coupe SUV line-up by introducing the new Basalt X. The variant reshuffle brings feature-rich upgrades to the top-spec trim while also revising prices across the range. Pre-bookings for the Basalt X opened on August 22 with a token amount of Rs 11,000. The updated model is now priced from Rs 7.95 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), making it more accessible than before.

Design

On the outside, the Basalt X remains largely identical to the standard model, save for a few subtle touches. The most noticeable update is the addition of a distinctive ‘Basalt X’ badge on the tailgate, reinforcing its refreshed identity. While it doesn’t get major exterior changes, the coupe-SUV continues to flaunt its unique sloping roofline and bold styling that sets it apart in the midsize SUV segment.

Interiors and Features

The Basalt X Max variant introduces meaningful upgrades inside the cabin. The dashboard now features slanted pattern imprints with bronze highlights, paired with a new dual-tone tan-and-black upholstery that elevates the cabin’s ambience. Alongside cosmetic improvements, Citroën has expanded the feature list significantly.

The highlight is Cara, Citroën’s in-car AI assistant available on the Basalt X Max automatic trims. Cara goes beyond standard voice commands by offering real-time flight tracking, traffic-based route optimisation, vehicle health monitoring, SOS assistance, and smart reminders. This AI assistant gives the Basalt X a strong edge in connected-car technology.

Other additions include ventilated seats, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, white ambient lighting, LED fog lamps, and an auto-dimming IRVM. Buyers can also opt for a 360-degree camera at an additional cost of Rs 25,000.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, there are no mechanical changes. The Basalt X continues with the same powertrain options as before. The entry-level versions use an 82hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The higher-spec variants, including the X Max, come with a more powerful 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.

Pricing

The new Basalt X replaces the earlier Max trims while delivering more features at a reduced price. The starting price has dropped from Rs 8.32 lakh to Rs 7.95 lakh, making it more competitive in its class. The full price range for the 2025 Citroën Basalt X is as follows:

  • You: Rs 7.95 lakh

  • Plus: Rs 9.42–12.07 lakh

  • Max: Rs 11.63–12.90 lakh

Optional extras include the dual-tone roof finish for Rs 21,000 and the 360-degree camera pack for Rs 25,000. Its rivals include Nexon, Curvv, Venue, Sonet and the Fronx
