As 2026 has started, several major carmakers in India have hiked prices of their models. Rising input costs, higher logistics expenses, and sustained currency pressure are the key reasons behind these revisions.

With the Indian rupee continuing to weaken against major global currencies such as the euro, manufacturers are adjusting prices to protect margins.

The hikes range between 2 percent and 3 percent, impacting both luxury and mass market cars, potentially increasing prices by several thousand rupees or more, depending on the model.

Mercedes Benz India 2%

Mercedes Benz India will revise prices across its entire product portfolio by up to 2 percent starting January 1, 2026. The increase has been attributed to continued foreign exchange volatility, with the euro to rupee rate remaining above Rs 100 for most of 2025, along with rising input and operational costs.

The hike applies to all models including sedans, SUVs, and performance-oriented vehicles across ICE and EV lineups. Customers who complete bookings before December 31, 2025, will be eligible for current prices. This marks the first major price adjustment since the GST cut and is aimed at offsetting the nearly 10 percent depreciation of the rupee against the euro.

JSW MG Motor India 2%

JSW MG Motor India has also announced a price hike of up to 2 percent across its ICE and EV range, effective January 1, 2026. The company cites increased costs of raw materials and components, along with broader macroeconomic pressures, as the key factors behind the move.

The hike will affect eight models in its lineup, ranging from the Comet EV to the Gloster SUV. Lower variants are expected to see a smaller increase, closer to 1 percent, while higher trims may face the full 2 percent revision. Buyers booking vehicles by December 31, 2025, will be able to secure current prices.

BMW India 3%

BMW India will increase prices by up to 3 percent across its sedan, SUV, and performance car lineup from January 1, 2026. The revision follows a sharp depreciation of the rupee against the euro over the past year, which has significantly increased import related costs.

This comes after a previous 3 percent hike implemented in September 2025. While entry level models are expected to see an increase of around 2.5 percent, premium variants will likely attract the full 3 percent hike. Buyers placing orders before the end of December can still benefit from existing prices.

Renault India

Looking ahead, Renault is preparing for two major SUV launches in 2026. The next-generation Duster is scheduled to debut on January 26, followed by a larger three-row SUV later in the year.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will push back its planned price increase for the new year by around 15 to 20 days, citing strong sales momentum in its small car portfolio.

Speaking to the media on the first day of the year, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India, said the company wants to continue offering customers the benefit of the current pricing, which was lowered after the GST revision in September last year.

Models such as the Alto K10 and S-Presso remain the brand’s most affordable offerings and are primarily aimed at first-time car buyers.

Following the hike, the Premium variant now starts at Rs 49.4 lakh, while the Performance variant remains unchanged for 2026. BYD has confirmed that customers who booked the Sealion 7 Premium on or before December 31, 2025, will continue to get the earlier ex-showroom pricing.
