MG Comet EV Overview

The MG Comet EV’s electric motor produces 41 hp and 110 Nm of torque, paired with an automatic transmission. Its 17.3 kWh battery (17.4 kWh in fast-charge variants) provides an ARAI-certified 230 km range on a single charge, offering efficiency for daily commutes with 3.3 kW or 7.4 kW AC charging options.

Designed with urban aesthetics, the EV features sleek body lines, an illuminated MG logo, LED headlamps and taillamps, body-coloured ORVMs, aero wipers, connecting lights, and turn-indicator-integrated DRLs in higher trims.

The interior impresses with premium Starlight Black or Space Grey themes, fabric or leather upholstery, digital cluster, 50:50 split rear seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

On the safety side, it gets an IP67-rated battery, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child anchors, and seat-belt reminders across the range.

Meanwhile, higher trims add electronic stability control, an electronic parking brake, rear disc brakes, and a reverse camera for confident motoring.

Battery and Motor

The Comet EV’s electric motor is mounted on the rear axle. It develops 41 hp maximum power and 110 Nm peak torque.

Power reaches the rear wheels through a single-speed automatic transmission with no clutch or multi-gear shifts.

Range and Charging

The Comet EV achieves an ARAI-certified range of 230 km on a single full charge from its 17.3 kWh battery.

Charging is handled via a Type 2 AC connector. Using a standard 3.3 kW home wallbox, the battery charges from zero to full in approximately 7 hours, making overnight home charging the most practical routine for most owners.

A 7.4 kW AC fast charger reduces that to around 3.5 hours.

interior

Inside the Comet EV, the dashboard gets a clean, minimalist design with dual-tone colour schemes in either Starlight Black or Space Grey. Ahead, the driver instrument cluster is a full digital unit with either a 17.78 cm or 26.04 cm embedded LCD screen, while the steering wheel receives leather wrapping in higher trims and gets audio controls.

Infotainment comes via a 10.25-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth music and calling, steering-mounted controls, and i-Smart 2.0 with over 55 connected features including voice commands, remote lock/unlock, live location tracking, and over-the-air updates.

To complement this, the audio system is backed by four speakers. Additionally, three USB ports and a front 12V power outlet are provided to keep devices charged across all seating positions.

Seating wise, the front includes power windows, manual air conditioning, driver and co-driver vanity mirrors, and a one-key seat turning mechanism on the co-driver side for second-row entry. Rear seats get 50:50 split folding and three-point seatbelts.

Also, boot space is minimal with seats upright, sufficient only for the charger and a slim bag, but expands considerably once the rear seats fold flat.

exterior

The Comet EV measures 2974 mm in length, 1505 mm in width, and 1640 mm in height, with a 2010 mm wheelbase, placing it among the most compact four-seat cars currently on sale in India.

From the front, it gets a short bonnet and a sleek face with modern parallel-steps LED headlamps (or halogen on base variants) and an illuminated MG logo.

The side view reveals the car’s compact proportions on 12-inch wheels shod with 145/70 R12 tyres, body-coloured outside rear-view mirrors and door handles with chrome accents, LED turn indicators integrated into the mirrors, and boneless aero wipers.

Finally, at the rear, extended horizon connecting lights link the front and rear lighting signatures, while LED taillamps complete the tidy, distinctive look.

safety

The Comet EV includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, front and rear seatbelt reminders, three-point seatbelts with load limiter on the front seats, speed-sensing auto door lock, and impact-sensing door unlock.

Stepping up the range, an indirect tyre pressure monitoring system, reverse parking camera (in higher trims), electronic stability control with hill-hold control (in top trims), electronic parking brake, and rear disc brakes (in top trims) are also offered.

Also, the high-voltage battery carries IP67 rating and has passed multiple internal safety validations.

Regarding crash tests, the model has not been tested by Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP, so no official star ratings exist.

competition

The Comet EV’s closely competes with the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3, though both rivals are larger hatchbacks rather than micro-urban EVs.

The Tiago EV provides a conventional 5-door hatchback layout that allows far easier rear-seat access without swivelling the front seat, plus a 240-litre boot that remains usable with all seats in place, clear advantages over the Comet’s minimal cargo space and two-door design.

The eC3 offers a slightly more rugged crossover-inspired stance and potentially smoother ride over broken roads. The Comet EV counters with its smaller overall size for easier parking, tighter 4.2-metre turning radius, and distinctive quirky styling that neither rival matches.
