- AMT option is affordable compared to its rivals
- 4 star GNCAP safety rating is very much appreciated

- CVT should have been an option
- Only 2 airbags on the lower trims don't make any sense
Renault Triber Overview

Renault Triber is great value for money 7-seater that comes with suave styling and a decent set of features. It undercuts its rivals like Ertiga and Carens by quite a lot, but suffers from a noisy engine and lackluster dealership service.
engine and performance
The NA 1.0 Liter three-cylinder is your sole option with the Triber, it comes with a manual or an AMT. The engine makes just enough 72 hp and 96 nm. 0-100 is out of the question, but if timed right, overtaking is pretty manageable with all seats occupied.
The AMT has expected is a bit clunky during N-1-2 shift but sorts itself out as you go up the rev range. It's pretty quick on the downshifts and returned about 14 kmpl despite driving sedately at an average of 50-80 kmph from my work to home and vice versa.
We haven’t tested the manual, but expect a couple of more digits in terms of mileage. Speaking of which, you can also get the Triber with a CNG kit for around 80,000 rupees.
It will be installed at a government-approved facility. The new Honda Amaze has also taken this route instead of factory fitting the kit for cost cutting reasons, I guess.
Ride and Handling
The road is pretty well planted. I drove around 120 kmph on the Gurgaon-Faridabad expressway. The Triber was stable all the way.
The steering is extremely light in low and medium speeds, which makes navigation a breeze in heavy traffic and tight turns.
The engine NVH is something Renault has not been able to fix since its inception in India. The cabin is alarmingly full of engine sound at low speeds, which disappear after 40 kmph or so.
Triber soaks up bumps and potholes very well, the sound does make its way inside the cabin, but the ride still remains composed even during highway speeds.
interior
Again for a car costing 6 lakh, the Triber doesn’t disappoint, provided you keep your expectations in check. Renault is pretty proud of Triber’s 100 plus modular seating configurations.
Basically, you can add or remove seats as per your needs, we drove in a standard 7 seat setup for maximum practicality.
Seats are not very comfy nor too stiff, and this has a thing with every Renault car we have ever driven. There are 6-way manual adjustment along with a pretty deep chilled console storage.
Renault has used the word dual tone here in the loosest sense possible. The black and white(stiching only) color combo is pretty bland, but again for 6 lakhs it will do just fine. Aside from fabric seats, you get plenty of black hard plastic spread throughout the cabin.
The monotone interior stands in stark contrast to the colorful gauge cluster with vibrant readouts and center infotainment screen, which features wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Our top of the line Triber also came with a 6 speaker setup, air filter, and very much appreciated steering mounted controls.
There is plenty of occupant space for middle seat occupants provided the rear ones are willing to sacrifice a bit of legroom. The center seats also recline quite far back enough to get some quality sleep on long journeys.
The rear seats are best suited for children and women.
You have to make up your mind with triber when choosing between passengers or cargo, as you cannot fit both at once. With all three rows up and occupied, you only get enough space to store 3-4 school size bags. This changes drastically with third row seats folded as you then get 680 liters of space.
exterior
The Triber doesn't do anything noteworthy to hide its utilitarian appeal, unlike its much more polished rivals like Ertiga, Rumnon and Carens. That doesn’t mean it's bad looking though. On the contrary, it is one of the most classic looking cars available with well controlled proportions and is devoid of eye burning light bars and big gloss black grills.
The Triber comes with projector headlamps as standard, situated on either side of its three-piece chrome grille. The body colored cladding and skid plates give it a rough and tough look, and the chrome door handles our unit came with do exactly the opposite of that, the lower variants come in much more stylish black door handles.
To make up for its simplifying styling, Renault has to offer funky looking colors called Mustard and Cedar Brown available from RXL trim onwards. Our loaded RXZ trim came with AMT and R15 alloy wheels. The glowing Renault logo along with the gloss black roof rail adds a nice touch as does the smart key which locks and unlocks Triber as you approach or go away.
safety
Although the Triber has a 4-star GNCAP rating compared to paltry 1 star for Ertiga, it only has 2 airbags for lower variants. While upper ones get 4 airbags. This will change soon though as new variants are launched in H2 2025.
Good news is you get ABS and EBD standard across all variants.
competition
The Renault Triber enters the ring as a budget-friendly 7-seater MPV, with a new CNG variant boosting its eco-cred. We’ve sized up its rivals in this quirky crossover space. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga dominates with a 1.5L petrol (103 PS, 137 Nm) or CNG (88 PS, 122 Nm), a plush ride, and 550-litre boot with seats up, but its 3-star GNCAP rating doesn’t match the Triber’s 4-star adult safety.
The Toyota Rumion, an Ertiga twin, mirrors its specs with sharper styling.
final verdict
Renault Triber is a true 7 seater that starts at just around 6 lakhs. It has an okay-ish cabin, adequate power and can carry XL families pretty much anywhere they want.
