The MG Gloster is based on the Maxus D90 platform and carries a name that evokes British MG heritage. Its design draws inspiration from the 'art of surfing,' giving it a bold stance highlighted by the signature octagon grille. It is powered by two 2.0-litre diesel engines, a single-turbo and a twin-turbo unit, both paired exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The twin-turbo variant offers intelligent 4WD with seven terrain modes. It prioritizes a spacious, premium cabin, ADAS, and advanced connectivity via the i-SMART 2.0 system.

MG Gloster Overview

Updated on March 30, 2026

The MG Gloster is a rebadged and adapted version of the Maxus D90, tailored for Indian conditions with a focus on size, luxury, and technology. Its power revolves around diesel torque delivery suited to Indian highways and occasional rough roads, backed by an 8-speed torque converter. For enhanced capability, higher variants add intelligent 4WD with multiple drive and terrain modes.

Outside, the design emphasizes presence through a large octagon grille, LED lighting, and chrome accents that create a distinctive front end.

Meanwhile inside, the cabin uses leather-accented materials, soft-touch surfaces, and ambient lighting to maintain a premium feel. The layout accommodates six or seven passengers across three rows, offering knee room and second-row access via captain seats or bench options.

This interior experience is headlined by a feature list including a large infotainment screen, 12-speaker audio, and a panoramic sunroof.

It also incorporates extensive i-SMART connected car functions with remote controls and voice commands, alongside practical additions like a powered tailgate with kick gesture.

Engine and Performance

The Gloster is powered exclusively by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine available in two tunes. The single-turbo version produces 159 hp at 4000 rpm and 373.5 Nm torque from 1500-2400 rpm, paired with 2WD and an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The more powerful twin-turbo version delivers 212.5 hp at 4000 rpm and 478.5 Nm torque in the same rpm band, usually offered with 4WD featuring terrain selection modes.

fuel economy

According to ARAI-certified figures claimed by MG, fuel efficiency is 13.92 kmpl for the 2WD variants and 12.04 kmpl for the 4WD, supported by the vehicle’s 75-litre fuel tank

interior

The Gloster’s dashboard gets premium leatherette and soft-touch materials with chrome-plated honeycomb pattern garnishes. It centers around a 31.2 cm HD touchscreen supporting Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 12-speaker audio system with a subwoofer. The i-SMART 2.0 suite adds voice commands, remote AC and sunroof controls, live-traffic navigation, and app-based vehicle monitoring.

Ahead of the driver is an 8-inch multi-information display, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel supports tilt and telescopic adjustment with audio, and cruise controls.

The driver's seat is 12-way power-adjustable with lumbar support, ventilation, heating, massage functions, and a two-position memory system linked to the outside mirrors. The front passenger seat offers 8-way power adjustment and heating.

Meanwhile, climate is managed by a dual or three-zone automatic system with a PM 2.5 filter. Rear passengers get dedicated AC vents, armrests, cup holders, and power window controls. The second row can be configured with a bench or sliding and reclining captain seats, while the third row folds flat in a 60:40 split.

Other cabin amenities include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, illuminated scuff plates, and multiple USB and 12V charging ports.

exterior

The Gloster measures 4985 mm in length, 1926 mm in width, 1867 mm in height, and a 2950 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance stands at 210 mm, paired with a ladder-frame chassis that supports its road presence and light off-road capability.

Its front is marked by a large octagonal chrome grille, LED headlamps with follow-me-home functionality, and LED daytime running lights. Front fog lamps and steering-assist cornering lamps are also included, with chrome elements highlighting the fascia.

Along the side are chrome side steps, roof rails, and decorative fender and mirror garnishes. The power-foldable mirrors feature integrated turn indicators and logo projection, while the wheels are either diamond-cut or British windmill turbine-style alloys, with the latter reserved for 4WD trims.

At the rear, the Gloster is fitted with LED tail lamps, rear fog lamps, and a powered tailgate. Standard equipment includes front and rear mud flaps, though 4WD variants are distinguished by a dual barrel twin chrome exhaust system.

safety

The Gloster comes equipped with 6 or 7 airbags depending on configuration, supported by an electronic stability program, traction control, and hill hold and descent control. The braking system features ABS with EBD, brake assist, and rear disc brakes, integrated with an electric parking brake and auto hold function.

To assist with visibility and monitoring, the vehicle includes a 360° around view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Safety is further reinforced by ISOFIX child seat anchors, seatbelt reminders, speed-sensing door locks, and a driver fatigue reminder.

Higher trims expand these capabilities with ADAS features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and blind spot detection, among others.

Note that no official Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP rating is available for the Indian-spec model.

competition

The Gloster's closest rivals in its segment are the Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian.

The Fortuner offers stronger brand reputation for long-term reliability and resale value, along with a proven diesel engine and widespread service network. Meanwhile, the Gloster counters with a larger overall footprint, more extensive standard feature list (including panoramic sunroof and advanced seat functions), and a twin-turbo diesel option delivering higher torque.

The Meridian provides superior on-road driving dynamics and a more premium interior execution in some areas, plus capable 4x4 hardware. Conversely, the Gloster offers greater cabin space in all rows, a bigger infotainment screen, and more comprehensive ADAS availability on top variants.

Note that the Gloster is being succeeded by the MG Majestor, which directly targets the same rivals with updated design and features.
