Honourable Mentions
The following RWD cars from the luxury car segment were not included in the main list to keep focus on popular mainstream models.
Some RWD cars in the executive, luxury, and performance segment include the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BYD Seal, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW Z4, BMW M2, Porsche Macan EV, Porsche 911, Ferrari 296 GTB, Rolls-Royce Ghost, and Rolls-Royce Phantom, among others.
What You Need To Know Before Buying a RWD Car
RWD cars usually feel more balanced, as the power goes to the rear wheels, while the front wheels focus only on steering. That often means a sharper turn in and a more natural driving feel, especially at highway speeds. Hard acceleration feels cleaner too, with less torque steer pulling at the steering wheel. If you enjoy spirited driving or do frequent highway runs, RWD cars simply feel more composed.
However, from a practical standpoint, Front Wheel Drive (FWD) cars are usually the better choice. In heavy rain, slush, or loose gravel, RWD can feel nervous if you are not smooth with the throttle. You will not really benefit from the balance advantage in stop-and-go traffic conditions anyway. Tyre wear at the rear can also be higher if you drive enthusiastically. In hilly areas with poor roads, traction can be tricky without good tyres and traction control.
