The Mahindra XEV 9S is the brand’s fourth electric SUV and its first fully seven-seater electric vehicle, built on the INGLO platform. Positioned as a premium family EV, it combines long-range capability with a spacious, feature-rich cabin. Available with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery options, the XEV 9S offers real-world ranges of around 400–450 km and 500–550 km, respectively.

Its dimensions and smart interior packaging provide generous headroom and legroom, while the 150-litre frunk and 527-litre boot ensure ample storage. The SUV targets families seeking comfort, technology, and long-distance usability without compromising on performance or style.

engine and performance

The XEV 9S offers three battery-powered options: the 59 kWh pack produces 231 PS, while the 79 kWh pack delivers 286 PS, both generating 380 Nm of torque. There is also a 70kwh battery pack (241 hp) which is exclusive to pack two variants. Acceleration from 0–100 kmph is claimed at 7 seconds, with a top speed of 202 kmph. Drivers can choose from four driving modes and five levels of regenerative braking, allowing flexibility in city commutes or long trips.

The larger battery variant is designed for extended travel, offering higher output and range, while the smaller pack is ideal for urban use. The performance-focused setup ensures smooth power delivery, responsive handling, and confident highway driving.

Range And Charging

The 59 kWh variant delivers approximately 400–450 km on a single charge, while the 79 kWh version can achieve 500–550 km, depending on driving conditions and mode selection. Regenerative braking and four driving modes help optimise energy use in city traffic or highway cruising. Charging is versatile, with AC options of 7.2 kW and 11 kW, taking 6–11.7 hours depending on battery size.

Fast charging capability is included to reduce downtime on long trips, though exact DC charging rates are yet to be specified.

interior

The XEV 9S cabin is designed for comfort and modern appeal, featuring triple-screen setup depending on the variant. A panoramic openable sunroof enhances the sense of space, while the dual-tone interior and white upholstery give a premium feel.

The two-spoke steering wheel integrates physical buttons designed like touch controls, and the central screens manage infotainment and climate functions. Second-row seats slide and recline, offering legroom for taller passengers, while the third row is ideal for kids or short journeys. The SUV also includes dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio, and BYOD mounts for tablets.

exterior

The XEV 9S reflects Mahindra’s contemporary EV styling with a strong resemblance to the XUV700 while incorporating electric-specific design cues. Its front fascia features connected L-shaped LED DRLs, triangular LED clusters, a closed grille, and an illuminated Mahindra badge. The side profile shows aero-focused 18-inch alloy wheels and sleek lines, while the rear adopts sharper LED tail lights and a refined bumper design.

Overall, the SUV presents a futuristic yet familiar stance, offering seven colour options and a commanding road presence suited for families and tech-oriented buyers who want both style and functionality.

safety

Safety is a key focus for the XEV 9S. Standard equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, reverse parking sensors, and a rearview camera. Higher trims add tyre pressure monitoring, front parking sensors, and a full Level-2 ADAS suite featuring adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and auto emergency braking.

Mahindra’s calibration ensures that these systems remain effective for Indian roads and expressways, providing confidence for families on city streets and long highway journeys alike.

competition

In the premium seven-seater electric SUV segment, the XEV 9S competes with the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, E-Vitara, and Mahindra’s own BE6. Its combination of seven-seat comfort, triple-screen technology, and high real-world range sets it apart. While the competition focuses on smaller EVs or shorter-range models, the XEV 9S provides long-distance usability with family-friendly practicality.

Its aggressive pricing and range of variants make it an appealing choice against rival EVs in India, especially for buyers seeking more space, premium features, and advanced safety technology in a seven-seater EV.
