Toyota Innova Crysta Diesel To Be Discontinued By 2027
It was supposed to be this year but high demand and lack of alternatives mean you can get the best-selling for 2 more years

Toyota is expected to discontinue the Innova Crysta diesel around March 2027, effectively ending the run of one of the most influential MPVs in the Indian market. The ladder frame MPV, powered by the 2.4 litre diesel engine and sold only with a manual gearbox, was originally meant to be phased out by 2025.
However, consistent demand from fleet and private buyers, along with supply disruptions affecting the Innova Hycross, pushed Toyota to keep the Crysta alive longer than planned. The company has not officially commented on the exact exit timeline.
The main reason the Crysta’s days are numbered is the introduction of stricter CAFE 3 norms in India. These tougher fuel efficiency and CO2 regulations make it increasingly difficult for heavy, body on frame diesel vehicles to remain viable without costly re-engineering.
Toyota has already drawn a clear strategic line by positioning the Innova Hycross as a monocoque, strong hybrid petrol MPV for private buyers, while the Crysta has largely become a fleet focused product.
Hybrids play a crucial role in Toyota’s future plans because they benefit from super credits under CAFE rules, helping lower the brand’s overall fleet emissions. As Toyota pushes more hybrids, continuing a high emission diesel MPV makes less sense.
When the Innova Crysta exits, it will leave a noticeable gap in the rugged diesel MPV space, but a strong hybrid innova Crysta will likley be able to match the efficiency of the traditional diesel if its launched in near future
What options will I have once the Innova Crysta diesel is discontinued?
After the Crysta exits, there will be no direct body on frame diesel MPV replacement in India. The closest option within Toyota will be the Innova Hycross hybrid, which offers better fuel efficiency and lower emissions but feels more car like and less rugged. Outside Toyota, buyers will have to consider three row SUVs from Mahindra or Tata, or wait for potential MPV launches such as the Hyundai Staria.
Will spare parts still be available for the Innova Crysta diesel?
Yes, spare parts availability and service will not be a concern. Toyota will continue supplying parts for 10 more years ( maximum registration of diesel car) after discontinuation, especially given the massive number of Innovas on Indian roads. Both authorised service centres and the aftermarket will stock parts well into the next decade.
