Maruti Suzuki Escudo

Under the hood, the Escudo will likely carry over the proven and efficient engine options from the Grand Vitara.

• 1.5L Mild-Hybrid Petrol: This engine is expected to produce around 103 PS and 137 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Suzuki’s AllGrip Select AWD system could be offered with the manual variant.
   

• 1.5L Strong-Hybrid Petrol: Co-developed with Toyota, this powertrain combines a petrol engine with an electric motor for a total output of 116 PS. It will be mated to an e-CVT gearbox and is renowned for its exceptional fuel efficiency.

   

Ride and Handling

Built on Suzuki’s global C-platform, the Escudo is expected to offer a balanced and comfortable ride, well-suited for Indian road conditions. The suspension will be tuned to absorb bumps and undulations effectively, ensuring a comfortable journey for the family. Light steering will make it easy to maneuver in the city, while it should remain stable and predictable on the highway. 

Inside, the cabin of the Escudo is expected to elevate the premium experience. It will likely feature a sophisticated dual-tone interior theme with soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door panels. While the layout will be similar to the Grand Vitara, Maruti may use different upholstery options, such as premium leatherette, and unique trim inserts. Key features expected include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents, ensuring comfort for all passengers.

Infotainment & Tech

The Escudo will be equipped with Maruti Suzuki’s latest technology suite.2 A large, 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system is expected to be at the center of the dashboard, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other anticipated features include a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, Suzuki Connect telematics with over 40 connected car features, and a premium sound system, making it one of the most tech-forward offerings from the brand.

The Escudo’s design is expected to be an evolution of the Grand Vitara's handsome styling. Anticipate a redesigned front grille featuring a distinct pattern and prominent Suzuki badging, along with revised front and rear bumpers to give it a more assertive stance. While the overall silhouette will remain familiar, unique alloy wheel designs and specific 'Escudo' badging will set it apart. The lighting system will likely consist of all-LED projector headlamps, DRLs, and tail lamps, reinforcing its premium positioning.

Safety will be a key focus for the Escudo. It is expected to come equipped with up to six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard or across most variants. Higher trims will likely add features like a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Upon its launch, the Maruti Suzuki Escudo will enter a fierce competition with established players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and its own siblings, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
