Two naturally aspirated K-Series petrol engines power the WagonR. Starting the range, the entry 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10C develops 67.5 hp at 5600 rpm and 91.1 Nm at 3400 rpm in petrol mode, falling to 56 hp and 82.1 Nm in CNG mode.

Stepping up, the larger 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12N produces 90 hp and 113.7 Nm.

For both options, power goes to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox or Maruti’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS) automated manual.

ARAI-certified figures for the 1.0-litre petrol returns 24.35 kmpl with the manual and 25.19 kmpl with AGS. Meanwhile, the 1.2-litre petrol manages 23.56 kmpl (manual) and 24.43 kmpl (AGS).

To further aid efficiency in traffic, idle start-stop is standard on petrol variants.

In CNG form, the 1.0-litre unit achieves 33.47 km/kg on the manual gearbox.

For fuel storage, the petrol tank holds 32 litres, and CNG variants carry a 60-litre water-equivalent cylinder alongside a petrol reserve for bi-fuel operation.

Inside the WagonR, the dashboard uses dual-tone plastics with a clean, functional layout that prioritises visibility and reach.

The steering wheel tilts for driver adjustment and carries audio and voice controls on higher grades. Behind it, the instrument cluster displays a reddish-amber or white theme.

Centrally, infotainment starts with the SmartPlay Dock on mid variants and steps up to a 17.78 cm touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on top trims, supported by Bluetooth and up to four speakers.

Seating wise, front seats offer reclining and sliding adjustment plus under-tray storage on the passenger side in higher variants, while the rear bench splits 60:40 and folds flat.

Rear passengers benefit from a parcel tray (CNG models standard) and ample knee and headroom due to the tall roofline. Around the cabin, bottle holders in all doors and floor console add everyday practicality.

Finally, boot capacity on petrol variants measures 335 litres; however, the CNG cylinder is housed in the boot on CNG models, reducing available luggage space.

At 3655 mm long, 1620 mm wide and 1675 mm tall on a 2435 mm wheelbase, the WagonR maximises interior volume. As a result, the overall design prioritises visibility, easy parking and maximum interior volume over flashy lines.

From the front, the WagonR presents a wide, upright face with large headlamps and a simple grille.

The side body shows a tall-boy stance, blacked-out B-pillar that creates a floating-roof effect, body-coloured door handles and electrically adjustable ORVMs with turn indicators on higher trims.

Below, wheel sizes vary by variant - base models run 13-inch steel wheels on 155/80R13 tyres, while higher variants step up to 14-inch wheels (steel or alloy) on 165/70R14 rubber.

At the rear, high-mounted tail lamps, a wide bumper and optional rear wiper-washer complete the functional look.

Topping it off, dual-tone exterior paint is available as an option on top grades, while roof antenna and body-coloured bumpers are standard.

The WagonR is equipped with dual front airbags, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, seat-belt pre-tensioners with force limiters, front and rear seat-belt reminders, speed-sensitive auto door lock, rear parking sensors and hill-hold assist on AGS variants.

Additionally, a speed alert system is also fitted as standard across the range, including 3-point seat belts for all seats and child-proof rear door locks.

However, Global NCAP testing of the 2023 model awarded a poor 1 star rating for adult occupant protection and 0 stars for child occupant protection.

The WagorR closely competes with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.

The Celerio shares a similar small-capacity petrol engine and CNG availability, but it is slightly lighter and more compact, while the WagonR counters with a taller cabin and a larger 355-litre boot.

The Tiago takes a different approach, offering stronger safety credentials with its 4-star Global NCAP rating and a more planted driving feel, though it is not as tall inside as the WagonR. It is also available with a factory CNG option.

The Grand i10 Nios positions itself as the more premium alternative, with a better-equipped cabin and a 1.2-litre engine. However, it shares similar practicality goals with the WagonR and is also offered with a petrol-CNG powertrain.
