Our Recommendation For Most BuyersTata Sierra
The Sierra is the more sensible everyday choice of the two, and its size advantage in traffic is something you appreciate daily rather than occasionally. Most buyers will be well served by the naturally aspirated petrol, available with a manual or a dual-clutch automatic.
Drivers who want pace should look at the 160hp turbo-petrol, though it is worth knowing that engine comes only with a torque-converter automatic on the upper versions, so it is not a cheap upgrade. Anyone covering high monthly distances should take the diesel. Its unproven long-term record is the main risk to weigh against everything else it offers.
Tata Harrier
The Harrier is what to choose when you want the bigger vehicle and the stronger engine, and its diesel remains the reason most people buy one. With 350Nm it pulls a fully loaded car without any strain, which the Sierra's engines cannot match however capable they are. Take the automatic if traffic features in your routine and the manual if you cover long open stretches.
The turbo-petrol suits city-leaning owners who never needed diesel economy in the first place. Mid-range versions carry the equipment that matters, with driver assistance and ventilated seats sitting higher up the range.
