Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose MG Hector Tomahawk EV?Why choose
- Seven-seat capacity in both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations; the Sierra EV is strictly five seats, making the Tomahawk EV the answer for families who need the third row
- Vehicle-to-Home capability is a first in India and allows the battery to power home appliances during grid outages a practical advantage that neither the Sierra EV nor any direct rival currently offers
- Certified range of 517km on a 69.2kWh battery is strong for the price, with 90kW DC fast charging providing a 30-80 percent charge in approximately 35 minutes
- BaaS pricing makes the entry cost lower than the Sierra EV's outright purchase price at comparable specification levels
- Larger, more family-oriented cabin packaging around the three-row layout with full connectivity suite
Why not choose
- No crash test rating from Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP at launch; the Sierra EV comes from a brand with a strong crash test track record across its EV lineup
- No AWD option; the Sierra EV offers a dual-motor AWD setup on its top variant producing 504Nm, which the Tomahawk EV cannot match for traction and performance
- No high-performance electric motor option; the Tomahawk EV's 201hp single motor is the only configuration, where the Sierra EV's AWD version reaches 0-100kmph in 5.8 seconds
- MG's EV-specific after-sales infrastructure is less developed than Tata's in most Indian cities, particularly outside tier-1 markets
Why Choose Tata Sierra EV?Why choose
- Dual-motor AWD available on the top variant, producing 504Nm and reaching 0-100kmph in 5.8 seconds performance and traction that the Tomahawk EV does not offer at any price
- Six terrain response modes and hill descent control make it a credible choice for buyers who occasionally leave paved roads, which the Tomahawk EV is not designed for
- 120kW DC fast charging (20-80 percent in approximately 26 minutes) is faster than the Tomahawk EV's 90kW rate, giving a shorter fast-charging stop time at comparable battery levels
- Tata's EV service network is the most extensive in India, with established technician training and parts supply in cities where MG's EV support is limited
- The 75kWh RWD variant claims 665km MIDC-certified range, higher than the Tomahawk EV's 517km figure
Why not choose
- Strictly five seats; families who need a third row have no option within the Sierra EV the Tomahawk EV is the only answer in this comparison for seven-seat buyers
- Level 2+ ADAS is restricted to the range-topping variant alone; mid-range Sierra EV buyers get no driver assistance, which is a significant gap given the car's price
- A newer nameplate with limited long-term ownership history; early owner reports mention software bugs that OTA updates have not fully addressed
- The AWD variant and the full ADAS suite are only available together at the top of the range, so accessing either feature requires committing to the highest spend
Our Recommendation For Most BuyersMG Hector Tomahawk EV
For families who need a third row and want V2H capability in their electric SUV, the Tomahawk EV is currently the only credible answer in this price segment. Seven seats and 517km of certified range are a combination no Sierra EV buyer can access, and V2H as a grid-outage backup is a genuinely practical differentiator in Indian conditions where power cuts occur regularly.
The trade-offs are real: no AWD, no crash test result, and a thinner MG EV service network. Buyers who live within MG's EV service reach, do not need performance traction, and genuinely require the third row should find the Tomahawk EV the more purposeful choice.
Tata Sierra EV
The Sierra EV makes the stronger case for buyers who want AWD traction, higher MIDC-certified range, faster DC charging, and the confidence of Tata's EV service depth. The dual-motor top variant is the most performance-oriented EV in this comparison by a meaningful margin, and the terrain modes make it usable on surfaces the Tomahawk EV is not intended for.
Five seats is the hard constraint that ends the conversation for three-row buyers. Within that constraint, the Sierra EV is the more dynamically complete and better-supported electric SUV, particularly for buyers outside the country's largest cities where Tata's service footprint pays a real dividend.
