The Hector Tomahawk EV's front-mounted electric motor produces 150 kW, or 204 hp, and 310 Nm. It drives the front wheels and gets its power from a 69.2 kWh LFP MAGIC Battery. MG claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds.

Charging is handled by a 90 kW DC system, which MG says can take the battery from 30 to 80 percent in around 35 minutes. A 7.4 kW AC charger takes approximately 12.5 hours for a 10 to 100 percent charge. The same charging port handles both AC and DC connections.

The Tomahawk EV can also send power out of the battery rather than simply taking it in. V2L can run electrical appliances, V2V can transfer charge to another electric vehicle, and V2H can supply power to a home. The battery is covered by a lifetime warranty for the first owner.

The Tomahawk EV's cabin uses Almond Brown and Carbon Black leatherette upholstery, with matching leatherette finishes on the door armrests and parts of the dashboard. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped, while the front seats get more adjustment and comfort features than the rear seats.

The driver gets a six-way power-adjustable seat with memory and auto-retract functions, while the co-driver's seat has four-way electric adjustment. Both front seats are ventilated. All four windows get one-touch operation with anti-pinch protection, and the dual-pane panoramic SkyRoof stretches across the cabin. There is also 256-colour ambient lighting.

The dashboard is centred around a 15.6-inch HD Grand View Display, paired with an 8.8-inch driver display. A 10-speaker Infinity audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger are also available. MG's i-SMART 3.0 connected-car system adds more than 80 functions, while i-SWIPE lets occupants control selected functions using gestures.

There are several cabin modes aimed at different situations, including Nap, Camp, Energise, Pro Pet, Valet and Quiet. The Starmaanch Karaoke app adds more than 8,000 tracks. Rear window sunshades, PM2.5 air filtration and coat hooks on the B-pillars round out the more everyday features.

The second row has 60:40 split seats with recline and slide functions. In the 7-seat version, they can also tip and tumble to provide access to the third row. The 5-seat version offers 610 litres of boot space, with considerably more room available once the rear seats are folded.

The Hector Tomahawk EV measures 4,745 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,770 mm tall, and sits on a 2,810 mm wheelbase. There is 230 mm of ground clearance measured at the battery. Its larger dimensions give it a noticeably bigger footprint than the outgoing Hector.

The front end uses projector LED headlamps with DRL strips running above and below the main lamp units. An illuminated MG logo sits between them, while the sculpted bumper and bonnet lines give the nose a layered appearance.

Along the sides, the SUV gets 18-inch Rotor-design alloy wheels. The rear is finished with wraparound LED tail lamps and an automatic powered tailgate.

There are six single-tone paint options, including Pearl White, Starry Black, Aurora Silver, Celadon Blue, Shadow Gold and Khaki Green. The two dual-tone choices pair Shadow Gold or Khaki Green with a black roof.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV does not have a Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP rating at the time of its launch. Six airbags are standard across the range, along with ABS with EBD, brake assist, ESP, traction control, hill hold, an electric parking brake with auto hold, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts and disc brakes on all four wheels.

It also gets a 360-degree camera with transparent chassis and wheel views, backed by front and rear parking sensors. The Level 2 ADAS package with 11 functions also adds to the safety.

MG has also focused on protecting the battery itself. The MAGIC Battery has undergone needle penetration, thermal shock and short-circuit testing, while its battery management system monitors the pack health in real time.

The Hector Tomahawk EV's closest rivals are the Mahindra XEV 9S, the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the Tata Sierra EV.

The XEV 9S has the advantage of a longer claimed range, a more established ADAS package and access to Mahindra's expanding fast-charging network. The MG, however, offers both 5 and 7-seat layouts, along with a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen and V2H capability, which is not offered by the Mahindra or Kia.

The Carens Clavis EV brings Kia's established reputation for fit and finish and a familiar feature package. Unlike the Kia, the MG can be had as a 5-seater, while its 69.2 kWh battery gives it a longer claimed range.

The Sierra EV is another newer entrant, with its design and Tata's existing EV ecosystem likely to be major factors for buyers. The MG is larger overall and offers the choice of five or seven seats, while its V2L, V2V and V2H functions give it a wider range of ways to use the battery beyond simply driving the car.
