Smart Summary for Car Selection
Why Choose MG Hector Tomahawk EV?Why choose
- 517km certified range on a 69.2kWh battery is a strong headline range figure that places it at the higher end of affordable three-row EVs in India
- Vehicle-to-Home capability allows the battery to power household appliances during outages a feature the Carens Clavis EV does not offer
- Available in both 5-seat and 7-seat body configurations, where the Carens Clavis EV is set up primarily as a family MPV without this layout flexibility within the same model
- 90kW DC fast charging with a 30-80 percent charge in approximately 35 minutes is a usable fast-charging rate for a battery of this size
- BaaS pricing lowers the entry cost, making the Tomahawk EV more financially accessible than its outright price suggests for buyers open to the subscription model
Why not choose
- No crash test rating from either Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP; the Carens Clavis EV benefits from the Carens platform's established safety reputation and six airbags standard across all variants
- MG's EV-specific service network is narrower than Kia's in most tier-2 cities, and the Carens Clavis EV benefits from Kia's established dealer network which has grown substantially in India
- A very new product with no long-term ownership data; buyers who want the reassurance of a nameplate with an established track record will find the Carens platform more familiar
- ADAS confirmation by variant needs to be verified from MG's official source before purchase
Why Choose Kia Carens Clavis EV?Why choose
- Built on the Carens platform with an established safety record; six airbags are standard across all variants a safety baseline the Tomahawk EV has not yet had independently verified
- Three-row MPV body with genuine second-row comfort and a well-packaged third row that has been confirmed through existing Carens ownership experience to be more usable than most SUV-based third rows
- Kia's dealer and service network across India has grown to cover a wider spread of cities than MG's EV support infrastructure, which matters for buyers in tier-2 markets
- ADAS features are part of the Clavis EV's higher variant lineup, drawing on Kia's well-established driver assistance technology
- Petrol Carens ownership data gives prospective Clavis EV buyers a reasonable picture of cabin quality, second-row comfort, and long-term reliability that new nameplates cannot provide
Why not choose
- Smaller battery option (42kWh and 51.4kWh) compared to the Tomahawk EV's 69.2kWh; the shorter range figures mean buyers who cover longer daily distances or take highway trips need to plan charging stops more carefully
- No Vehicle-to-Home technology; grid-outage power backup is not available in any Carens Clavis EV variant
- MPV body proportions mean the Carens Clavis EV does not have the SUV ground clearance that buyers in badly paved areas specifically want
- At comparable configured prices, the Tomahawk EV's larger battery and V2H capability represent a technology step the Clavis EV does not answer
Our Recommendation For Most BuyersMG Hector Tomahawk EV
The Tomahawk EV's 517km range and V2H capability are the two arguments that the Carens Clavis EV cannot counter at any price. For buyers who cover longer daily distances, need the largest available battery in this segment, or want home power backup from their electric SUV, the Tomahawk EV is the more capable answer.
The safety credential gap no crash test result versus the Clavis EV's established Carens safety reputation is the honest concern, and buyers who treat crash credentials as a primary criterion should factor it seriously. Service network reach is the other practical gap. For buyers whose priority is range, V2H, and an SUV-format three-row body, the Tomahawk EV makes a genuinely strong case.
Kia Carens Clavis EV
The Clavis EV earns its place through established platform credentials, genuine second-row comfort, a wider dealer network, and the confidence of buying into a nameplate with real ownership data behind it. The three-row MPV format with a properly usable second row is a practical advantage over SUV-based third-row configurations where adult comfort on longer trips is regularly compromised.
The honest limitation is range: the smaller battery options mean buyers who travel seriously on weekends or cover 80km or more daily should look at the Tomahawk EV's larger pack. For buyers who want a well-supported, safely packaged, practical three-row EV without the uncertainty of a new model, the Carens Clavis EV is the more established and lower-risk choice.
