MG Hector Tomahawk Launched in India from Rs 13.99 Lakh BaaS with a 517 km EV and a 1,100 km Plug-in Hybrid

CarHP was invited to the launch event in Mumbai today, and the headline surprise was not about range or price. MG put two vehicles on stage under one name, the Hector Tomahawk EV and the Hector Tomahawk PHEV, both riding on ADAPT, a new platform the company calls India's first Multi New Energy Vehicle architecture.

The EV starts at Rs 19.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 23.49 lakh, while the PHEV ranges from Rs 25.69 lakh to Rs 27.79 lakh, all ex-showroom. Meanwhile, the introductory BaaS prices start at Rs 13.99 lakh for the EV and Rs 21.79 lakh for the PHEV.

Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director at JSW MG Motor India, put it plainly at the event,

“The future of mobility will not be defined by a single technology solution but by providing customers the freedom to choose the pathway that best suits their needs.”

Design

The Hector Tomahawk measures 4,745 mm in length and 1,770 mm in height, with a 2,810 mm wheelbase. This makes it the tallest and one of the longest vehicles in its class. Overall width including the mirrors is 2,130 mm, and ground clearance beneath the battery is 230 mm.

Exterior equipment includes Beacon Lights, an illuminated MG logo, sculpted bumpers, and Rotor alloy wheels. An automatic power tailgate provides hands-free boot access.

Both powertrains offer seven variant-dependent colors. The EV is available in Pearl White, Starry Black, Aurora Silver, Celadon Blue, Shadow Gold, and Khaki Green. Black dual-tone roofs are offered for the Gold and Khaki paint.

The PHEV replaces Khaki with Turquoise Green, and pairs its two dual-tone options: Turquoise Green or Celadon Blue, with a white roof instead.

Cabin, Features and Safety

The interior runs an Almond Brown and Carbon Black theme called Desert Squadron, with ventilated front seats, a six-way powered driver seat with memory, a panoramic Cockpit SkyRoof and a PM2.5 air filter. Boot space is 610 litres in the five-seat configuration.

The 15.6-inch HD Grand View Display is the largest in the segment, backed by an 8.8-inch driver display and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system. i-SMART 3.0 covers 80-plus connected features, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, gesture controls via i-SWIPE, a GenAI voice assistant handling 30-plus Hinglish commands, and OTA updates. Starmaanch karaoke comes with 8,000-plus tracks.

The cabin also gets 256-colour ambient lighting, and connectivity includes a Digital Bluetooth Key with key-sharing support.

Six airbags are standard across all variants. Standard safety hardware across all variants also includes ESP, traction control, hill hold, ABS with EBD, brake assist, an electric parking brake with auto hold, TPMS, ISOFIX anchors and all-wheel disc brakes.

Level 2 ADAS covers adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, lane keep and departure functions, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and intelligent headlamps. A 360-degree HD camera with wheel view handles parking.

EV Powertrain

The electric version uses a 69.2 kWh MAGIC Battery feeding a permanent magnet synchronous motor good for 150 kW and 310 Nm. Certified range is 517 km and the car accepts DC fast charging at up to 90 kW.

The 517 km is an ARAI figure, so real-world range will land lower, but 90 kW charging is a strong number for the segment.

PHEV Powertrain

A 1.5 litre petrol engine, a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and a 20.5 kWh battery work together to deliver over 115 km of pure electric range. Add a full tank and MG claims a combined 1,100-plus km. The electric motor is rated at 148 kW with a 0 to 100 km/h time of approximately 9 seconds.

The DHT's Motor Control Unit peaks at 99.1 percent efficiency, and an electromagnetic clutch switches between four drive modes in 0.1 seconds. Those modes are Pure Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid and Engine Direct Drive, selected automatically by an Intelligent Energy Management System.

Vehicle to Home

The Hector Tomahawk can push power from its battery to run appliances, outdoor equipment and homes directly from the battery. In a country where inverter backup is a standard household expense, that is a genuinely useful feature for both variants.

Prices and Variants

MG is offering two payment routes. Under Battery as a Service you pay a lower upfront price and a per-km rental for the battery. Under full ownership, you buy the whole car.

BaaS, limited bookings

• EV from Rs 13.99 lakh plus Rs 4.90 per km battery rental
• PHEV from Rs 21.79 lakh plus Rs 3.20 per km battery rental

Full ownership, ex-showroom, introductory

The BaaS maths is worth doing before you book. At Rs 4.90 per km, an EV owner driving 1,000 km a month pays Rs 4,900 a month in battery rental. The lower sticker price is real, but so is the running cost.

Warranty

Both variants carry a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner. The MG SHIELD package gives EV buyers a 3-3-2 structure covering a three-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, three years of roadside assistance and two labour-free services. PHEV buyers get 3-3-3, with an additional labour-free service. An Assured Buy Back Program is available on both.

MG also offers Protect Plans, a range of prepaid maintenance programmes for further ownership flexibility.

Booking and Rivals

Bookings are open now at MG dealerships and on the company website. EV deliveries begin in September 2026. PHEV test drives and deliveries start in November 2026.

The EV competes directly with the Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV 9e and Hyundai Creta Electric. A 517 km certified range and 90 kW charging put it in the fight, though not clearly ahead.

The PHEV has no real competition at this price. The Toyota Innova HyCross is a strong hybrid with no plug. Luxury PHEVs cost several times more. If you want a seven-seat SUV that can run an entire week of city commuting on battery and still cover long-distance trips without charging planning, nothing else offers that at Rs 25 lakh right now. Whether the real-world numbers hold up is the question we will answer once we have driven it.
