Right, let’s start with BMW first, the car maker is doing as expected with about 1,439 units registered in April. The launch of facelifted 7 series and the upcoming all-electric M3 has generated some hype. Their refreshed i7 is also India bound and will be released at the end of this year.
BYD is seeing an uptick across monthly sales since the start of this year. They currently have a limited but critically acclaimed portfolio of cars like Sealion, Seal, and EMax 7 on sale.
Honda has been doing OK I would say with 5k units sold per month till now in 2026, considering they only have like 3 money maker cars. They have confirmed that Honda City facelift and ZR-V will launch on May 22
Hyundai has been registering mid 40k throughout the whole year, they will most likely cross 200,000 plus sales in May this year. Creta refresh is being tested globally and will launch in 2027.
JLR with their SUV-only strategy is doing remarkably good considering their cheapest and likely best selling Defender is a minimum 1 crore on road.
Hyundai’s cousin Kia has logged 24,697 units, their lowest registration so far in April 2026. Mahindra has crossed the 200,000 units registered mark healthily in April 2026. Their Scorpio N refresh is on the horizon with Indian test cars doing rounds lately.
As expected the king of the road Maruti is kilometers ahead of the competition with 6.16 lakh units registered till April 2026. They are going to go nuts with facelifts this year with Brezza, Baleno test mules spotted and are preparing a codename Y43 SUV to fight the Tata Punch.
Tata too is battling Mahindra hard and this time they are a bit ahead with 2.10 lakh units registered till now.
They have refreshed cars like Altroz, Punch and Punch EV recently. Interestingly the Sierra effect was not seen in April sales, so looks like they are a bit behind on deliveries with about 10,000 units down compared to March this year.
Mercedes-Benz registrations are 1,100 and change, they are still behind BMW, but this might not be the case as the year progresses because both S-Class facelift and C-Class electric are destined for India by end 2027 or starting 2027.
Nissan saw almost a 25 percent jump in registrations with almost 3,000 in April 2026. Looks like the Gravite is resonating a bit with buyers, too early to say anything.
Same case with Renault with 4,000 units registered in April 2026 as per the Vahan portal, the new Duster is praised quite a lot by everyone, hopefully the sales numbers will reflect the sentiment.
Skoda Auto VW (they combine both VW and Skoda sales) have got 8,828 smiling customers for April 2026. They have a pretty loved sedan portfolio and Kylaq has just been a lifesaver for Skoda, VW may be working on something similar.
Toyota or Maruti Junior as I like to call it are doing just OK with 24,000 plus mostly badge engineered cars registered in April 2026. Their Innova and Fortuner are still solid as a rock though, with latter most being due for a facelift.
Now as far as EVs are concerned Tata registered about 8,309 units in April 2026 with their rival Mahindra registering 5,517 units, doing almost similar numbers since the start of this year. Both companies have a pretty intensive and aggressive launches planned this year alike, Sierra Electric, Safari Electric, BE 7 etc.
VinFast though has registered a phenomenal growth with 839 units, twice as much as what was sold in Feb 2026. People compare them to Tesla for no reason, they are in a different segment price wise.
