Mercedes-Benz has wrapped up the world premiere of its upcoming electric C-Class sedan in Seoul, South Korea, marking the shift towards a fully electric future for the class, built on the brand's new MB.EA architecture.

This EV is an overall premium step up from the entry-level CLA EV, and fortunately, the design somewhat retains the distinct Mercedes-Benz identity.

With everything the sedan has to offer, the range is the most impressive part, with Mercedes-Benz claiming a massive distance of up to 762 km, achieved from the 94 kWh battery pack.

The 800-volt architecture, meanwhile, enables charging up to 325 km in just ten minutes.

The catch, nevertheless, is the wait, as the C-Class EV is still due for launch next year. It will be launched in the US initially, with further availability in other regions. We can expect the C-Class EV to launch in India in 2027.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric Side Rear View

The electric C-Class follows a coupe-like silhouette, with its sloping roofline and rear edge, a departure from its three-box saloon proportions. It sits on a 2,962-millimetre wheelbase, which stretches 97 millimetres longer than its ICE counterpart. Short overhangs and a low, flat front further add to this look.

Up front, unlike the new CLA and EQS, which follow a polarising egg shape, the C-Class EV's front is reminiscent of a proper luxury sedan. Mercedes has avoided the more futuristic EV-esque design language, and instead, it gets a large illuminated chrome grille.

The same cannot be said for the rear, however. The lack of a distinct brand identity is an oddity for a typical Benz. Dropping down from the fastback roofline, the rather short boot features round, star-themed taillights housed within a wide black strip.

The result gives it a slight Mustang look, which feels unusual for a Benz.

On the sides, chrome trim around the windows is supported by smooth door curves. To help the air flow cleanly, flush door handles remain completely hidden within the bodywork until the key approaches. These handles are included with the optional Keyless-Go system.

Inside the electric C-Class, the dashboard, or better, the lack of one, is dominated by a massive 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. This glass surface stretches the full width of the dashboard, packing 10 million pixels and delivering high-resolution graphics for the instrument cluster and personalised content.

An alternative MBUX Superscreen with triple-display arrangement is also offered.

This futuristic look with the display comes with a major loss of tactile controls, with possible sensory overload for some. Fortunately, the display does feature independently adjustable brightness zones, allowing the front passenger to view content without distracting the driver, an improvement to the aesthetic.

On the upside, the cabin gets customisable ambient lighting, generous space front and rear, electrically adjustable seats with memory, four-way electro-pneumatic lumbar support, full-backrest massage, ventilation, and 4D sound.

Material quality includes Softtorino leather grain on the base trim, while sports seats get Twisted Diamond Nappa leather with diamond perforation and contrasting stitching.

Mercedes also offers a fully vegan interior certified by The Vegan Society, making the EV only the second car globally, after the GLC, to earn the designation.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric Performance

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric Charge Port

The electric C-Class draws its power from two electric motors, producing a combined horsepower of 482, allowing the sedan to sprint to a claimed 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, or to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds.

Mercedes's engineering includes the front motor, which is paired with a single-speed gearbox and functions as a boost drive, while a 2-speed transmission is mounted at the rear.

The first gear is for snappy, immediate acceleration, and the second gear shifts prioritise efficient cruising at higher speeds.

As for the battery, the sedan gets a 94 kWh usable battery with a 726km claimed range.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric Safety

Safety-wise, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Electric gets up to 11 airbags, along with up to 27 cameras and sensors. An AI can analyse the sensor data in real time, using Car-to-X communication to provide the driver with contextual cues and information about the traffic.

On select packages, MB.DRIVE can assist the driver with steering, lane keeping, distance control, braking and acceleration, as well as parking and manoeuvring.
