BMW has officially unveiled the 7 Series facelift, calling it the most extensive mid-cycle update in its history.

This flagship sedan, which often serves as a laboratory for the brand's future technologies, has undergone significant design and interior changes to remain competitive in the high-stakes luxury segment.

The carmaker is expected to introduce its “Neue Klasse” tech in all of its upcoming cars - both updated and all-new models.

Sharper Exterior Design

New 2026 BMW 7 Series

The most noticeable changes on the outside, with the 7 Series adopting BMW's updated Neue Klasse design language.

While the sedan keeps its familiar large silhouette, the front end now features a revised split-headlamp setup. The upper lighting elements remain slim, while the main lamps are positioned more vertically in the bumper. The illuminated kidney grille now features horizontal slats instead of the traditional vertical ones.

Along the sides, the new 7 Series gets smoother surfaces and fewer sharp creases. For the first time, BMW is offering up to 22-inch alloy wheels, giving the car a more grounded and modern stance.

Panoramic iDrive is the Highlight

New BMW 7 Series interior with Panoramic iDrive

The interior is where you will see the most changes from the outgoing model.

BMW has completely updated the dashboard, replacing the previous layout with a pillar-to-pillar display system. This includes the new Panoramic iDrive - a full-width screen sitting at the base of the windscreen that projects information across the driver's line of sight.

The centre console is now dominated by a 17.9-inch touchscreen, and a 14.6-inch display for the front passenger is now included as standard. Physical buttons have been reduced to a minimum, with most controls moved to the new vertical twin-spoke steering wheel or integrated into the touch interface.

Premium materials like Merino leather, cashmere wool, and crystal glass accents have been used in the cabin for a luxurious experience.

Passenger Comfort and Technology

New BMW 7 Series rear seats

BMW continues to prioritise the Executive Lounge experience for rear passengers.

The 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen remains a standout feature, now updated to support smoother streaming and video conferencing. Rear passengers also get a touch command module in the door panels to adjust their seating position, climate, and entertainment.

The sedan also comes standard with adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering, which helps this large car feel more agile in city traffic and more stable on highways.

On the safety front, the 7 Series is now equipped with Level 2 driver assistance systems that allow for hands-free driving at speeds up to 130 km/h in specific conditions.

The electric i7 gets a new 112.5 kWh battery, pushing its driving range to approximately 720 km (WLTP) on a single charge in its most efficient form. The flagship i7 M70 remains the most powerful, generating 671 hp and 1,100 Nm of torque.

Charging speeds have also improved, with DC capacity increased to 250 kW, allowing a 10-minute charge to add roughly 230 km of range.

For those who prefer traditional engines, the six-cylinder petrol and diesel units continue to be on offer. While the V8 engine is not part of the initial launch lineup, BMW has confirmed it will return in a performance-oriented model next year.
