  • New 8 speed automatic for 1.0 variants
  • Rear massage seats and new "AI" infotainment system with much more fluid UI
  • The 1.5 variants finally get the rear disc brakes
  • New feature set makes it much closer to Kushaq than ever

  • No 360-degree camera or ADAS
  • No fog lamps trend is pretty much uncalled for
  • After 3 years we were hoping for something more substantial, this feels like a minor cosmetic job

Updated on April 16, 2026

Volkswagen has officially unveiled the Taigun facelift, this being the first major update to the compact SUV since its original launch in 2021. It has a new 8 speed transmission along with more efficient 1.0 L engine and rear disc brakes on 1.5 models. The front and back fascia have got mild uplifts along with new design alloys. Inside there is an AI integrated infotainment system, new sunroof and new interior colors.

Engine and Performance

The base 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI engine continues to produce 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque, now paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or the all-new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission that promises smoother shifts, better drivability in traffic, and potentially improved fuel efficiency compared to the previous 6-speed unit. VW claims more than 5 percent efficiency increase for the 1.0 unit

The more powerful 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI engine, featuring active cylinder technology for better efficiency when cruising, delivers 150 PS and 250 Nm of strong torque, providing confident overtaking ability and an exhilarating drive on open roads; it is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic

interior

Inside the cabin, the 2026 Taigun facelift’s dashboard gets updated design elements with higher-quality dual-tone materials and improved textures, while the seats are wrapped in leatherette with attractive contrast piping, GT embroidery on the performance-oriented variants, elegant contrast stitching throughout, and a more luxurious ambiance overall.

Ambient lighting has been enhanced with Laser Red or multi-colour themes that create a sophisticated mood, especially during night drives.

Key upgrades include a refreshed 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with sharper graphics, faster performance, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an integrated AI voice assistant for easier and smarter control. A fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster provides crisp and customisable displays with multiple themes.

Higher trims come with a panoramic sunroof that brings in ample natural light and a greater sense of spaciousness, along with other notable additions such as ventilated front seats with 6-way power adjustment, a rear seat massage function for better long-journey comfort, wireless smartphone charging, automatic climate control, cruise control, and an upgraded six-speaker audio system.

The interior space continues to be practical and comfortable for four adults with good knee room, headroom, and shoulder room, while the boot provides a usable 385 litres of capacity that can be expanded further by folding the rear seats.

exterior

The exterior of the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun has been thoroughly revised with a slimmer and more elegant grille featuring an illuminated VW logo that lights up for a distinctive premium touch, sleek connected full LED headlamps with a full-width light bar for a modern signature look.

The redesigned bumpers that include large horizontal slats finished in chrome on standard variants or gloss-black on the sportier GT trims, along with a more protruding lower chin section that adds boldness and better road presence.

The side profile remains largely familiar with its strong dual shoulder lines, sculpted bonnet, muscular yet elegant stance, blacked-out B-pillars, roof rails, and shark-fin antenna, but it now benefits from fresh 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheel designs in higher variants that enhance the stylish look without changing the overall proportions.

At the rear, the updates are subtler but consistent, including revised connected LED tail lamps with new graphic patterns, a blacked-out bumper with updated accents, and the illuminated VW logo carried over for visual harmony.

A new vibrant green exterior colour has been added to the palette alongside existing shades like red, white, and silver, helping the SUV stand out on the road.

safety

Safety continues to be one of the strongest highlights of the Taigun facelift, as the model is expected to carry forward its impressive 5-star Global NCAP rating for both adult and child occupant protection without any compromise.

Standard safety equipment across the range includes six airbags, electronic stability control with hill hold assist, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and overspeed warning alerts.

competition

The Volkswagen Taigun Facelift will likely face stiff competition from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, which currently dominate the mid-size SUV segment with prices between ₹11 lakh and ₹21 lakh. Other expected rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, both offering efficient hybrid options. The Skoda Kushaq remains a primary competitor, while the Honda Elevate and MG Astor could challenge its market share in the ₹12-20 lakh price bracket.
