Maruti Suzuki has started delivering the Wagon R Bioflex, India's first production flex-fuel car.
Crucially, the company has also opened bookings for private buyers, despite initial reports stating the model would be exclusive for commercial or fleet use.
The first batch of deliveries took place in New Delhi. This included units handed over to members of the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) as well as 13 private customers from the Karol Bagh showroom.

Priced at Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom), the Wagon R Bioflex is based on the top-spec ZXi+ variant. It uses the familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 91 hp and 114 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The car can run on ethanol blends from E20 to E100. To support higher ethanol use, Maruti has made important changes like upgraded fuel injectors, new fuel lines, a revised ECU, and an ethanol sensor.
Visually, the Bioflex looks very similar to the regular Wagon R, with added special 'Flex Fuel' decals and 'Bioflex' badges for differentiation. It comes well-equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen, six airbags, ESP, and other modern features.
