| Rank | Model | Apr’26 Sales | Apr’25 Sales | YoY Growth | Starting Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maruti Dzire | 23,580 | 16,996 | +39% | Rs 6.26 lakh |
| 2 | Tata Punch | 19,107 | 12,496 | +53% | Rs 5.65 lakh |
| 3 | Maruti Ertiga | 19,063 | 15,780 | +21% | Rs 8.80 lakh |
| 4 | Maruti Fronx | 18,829 | 14,345 | +31% | Rs 6.85 lakh |
| 5 | Maruti Wagon R | 18,648 | 13,413 | +39% | Rs 4.99 lakh |
| 6 | Maruti Baleno | 18,306 | 13,180 | +39% | Rs 5.99 lakh |
| 7 | Tata Nexon | 18,126 | 15,457 | +17% | Rs 8.10 lakh |
| 8 | Maruti Swift | 17,829 | 14,592 | +22% | Rs 5.79 lakh |
| 9 | Hyundai Creta | 15,291 | 17,016 | -10% | Rs 11.00 lakh |
| 10 | Mahindra Scorpio | 14,719 | 15,534 | -5% | Rs 13.49 lakh |
The Dzire at number one with 23,580 units and 39 percent YoY growth is the headline, but the story behind it is more specific than just sedan demand.
The current-gen Dzire launched with a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating at a price that starts below Rs 6.30 lakh.
Another important thing about Dzire sales is that it is amongst the most popular fleet models sold in India. Almost every premium cab driver from Uber, Ola, and Rapido goes for the Dzire due to its better mileage and safety compared to alternatives like the Aura.
The Tata Punch's 53 percent growth is the steepest climb on this list and deserves a dedicated reading. The January 2026 facelift added the Nexon's 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine to the Punch's existing lineup of naturally aspirated petrol and CNG options.

What Tata effectively did was put a stronger engine in its most affordable SUV body and charge Rs 5.65 lakh for the entry point.
The Punch now sits in a position where it is simultaneously undercutting the Nexon on price and offering a credible performance upgrade over its own base petrol.
That combination, lowest price in the Tata SUV family, turbocharged option, SUV styling explains 53 percent growth more clearly than any single feature does.

The Maruti cluster in ranks 3 through 8 tells a different story. Five Marutis Ertiga, Fronx, Wagon R, Baleno, Swift are all sitting within 1,000 units of each other between 17,829 and 19,063 units.
The Fronx at rank 4 with 31 percent growth is particularly notable because it is competing directly with the Tata Punch on paper, and yet both are growing simultaneously. The Punch is winning on aspirational pricing and turbo appeal; the Fronx is winning on Maruti's service network confidence and the coupe-SUV aesthetic at a similar price.
The two declines at the bottom Hyundai Creta at minus 10 percent and Mahindra Scorpio at minus 5 percent are not alarms but they are signals.

The Creta's fall from 17,016 to 15,291 units in a market where everything else is growing reflects a competitive crunch at the Rs 11 lakh and above bracket.
The Tata Sierra has entered that space, the Kia Seltos has been refreshed, and the Creta is navigating a window between its current generation and an expected update. The Scorpio's modest decline at India's most expensive car on this list, starting at Rs 13.49 lakh, reflects the same dynamic: the ladder-frame SUV buyer is a specific and loyal segment, but it is not growing at the rate the sub-8 lakh segment is.
Here we can clearly see that the Rs 5 to 9 lakh bracket is pulling all the weight, where CNG and value for money are the two strongest purchase motivators.
