The Creta's minus 10 percent decline is the headline. It remains the segment leader at 15,291 units but it is the only car in this table losing volume, and the context is important: two new entries, the Maruti Victoris and Mahindra XUV 7XO, launched into this space and immediately recorded 13,701 and 8,630 units respectively in April alone.

Between them they have added over 22,000 units to the segment without growing it from the outside. Some of that volume has come at the Creta's expense, and a Creta update is widely expected later in 2026 to reset the competitive position.

The Kia Seltos at plus 72 percent is perhaps the most instructive number here. It is the same car that was losing ground a year ago, reversed entirely by a comprehensive refresh that updated both the exterior and the features package.

The Seltos is now the most safety-forward car in this segment after achieving the highest Bharat NCAP score among ICE mid-size SUVs.

The Toyota Hyryder's 96 percent growth off a low base confirms that the strong-hybrid powertrain story is finally connecting with buyers who are running the total cost of ownership numbers seriously, with the hybrid variant's real-world mileage well above 20 kmpl making the Rs 2 to 3 lakh premium over petrol variants recoverable within three to four years of typical urban use.

The Victoris and XUV 7XO both entering the top 5 as new models in a single month confirms that the Rs 10 to 13 lakh mid-size bracket still has significant unmet demand, and that Maruti and Mahindra both read it correctly with simultaneous launches.
