New Hyundai i20 Leaked In Full, Looks Like A Compact SUV

The first images of the next-generation Hyundai i20 have surfaced online, revealing a dramatic design overhaul both inside and out. Unlike the current model's sleek, low-slung hatchback proportions, the new i20 appears to have adopted a more rugged, compact SUV-inspired stance.

The overall silhouette is noticeably taller and chunkier, with extensive black plastic cladding around the wheel arches, side skirts, and bumpers enhancing its crossover-like appearance. The sharply rising rear window line and upright stance further reinforce its SUV-inspired character. Even in blue, the car looks more like a mini SUV than a conventional premium hatchback.

At the front, the i20 features arrowhead-shaped headlamps with Y-shaped LED daytime running lights connected by a full-width light bar. The rear design is arguably the most distinctive aspect, featuring sharply styled connected LED taillights with dual light signatures on either side. The rear bumper also makes heavy use of black plastic cladding, adding to the rugged look.

The leaked images also provide a glimpse of the all-new interior. The ivory-themed cabin is completely redesigned and features a dual-screen layout, a new three-spoke steering wheel, and a reworked centre console with vertically stacked air-conditioning vents.

The vehicle shown in the images is a left-hand-drive model, suggesting it is an overseas-spec prototype.

Under the bonnet, the next-generation i20 is expected to continue with petrol and mild-hybrid petrol powertrains. For India, Hyundai is likely to retain the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options.
