The XUV 7XO is the answer when you need seven seats or all-wheel drive, because the Seltos provides neither. The diesel's 450Nm is far beyond anything the Kia offers and is exactly what a loaded three-row vehicle needs on a climb, and the equipment list including a 540-degree camera and triple screens is a generation ahead.
The constraint to understand is that all-wheel drive comes on the diesel only, so choosing the 200bhp petrol means front-wheel drive with no exception. At 2,040kg it is also heavy, which costs fuel and consumables continuously, and its size makes tight city parking real work.
Seltos
The Seltos is the better car for a family of four or five, and being smaller is the reason rather than a compromise. It is easier to park, cheaper to run with the diesel returning around 17kmpl against a much heavier rival, and its 447-litre boot stays usable at all times where the XUV 7XO's disappears once the third row is up.
Kia's resale strength and service network add to the ownership case. What it cannot do is carry seven people or drive all four wheels, and if either is a genuine requirement then no amount of refinement makes up for it. Torque also falls well short of the Mahindra diesel with a full car.

Mahindra announced on August 29 that the XUV 7XO crossed 70,000 units in seven months, averaging roughly 9,285 units a month, well above the XUV700's best-ever annual monthly average of 7,561 units.
