The Innova Hycross uses a single 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 16 valves, and VVT-i technology, which increases performance and fuel economy. In its pure petrol configuration, this unit generates 173 hp at 6600 rpm and 205 Nm, driving the front wheels through a CVT automatic.

The petrol-hybrid version retains the same engine but adds an electric motor and an e-CVT, producing a combined system output of 184 hp.

Regardless of the configuration, both powertrains are front-wheel drive and focus on linear power delivery rather than outright sportiness.

ARAI-certified fuel economy for the Innova Hycross stands at 16.13 kmpl for the petrol variants equipped with the CVT automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the petrol-hybrid variants with the e-CVT return 23.24 kmpl.

The dashboard features layered panels with soft-touch surfaces and metallic trim, housing a 10.1-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB ports, and voice commands. 

This interface is complemented by a leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment and mounted controls for audio, phone, cruise, and trip information.

For the driver, the instrument cluster integrates a multi-information display showing fuel economy, trip data, and hybrid system status.

The seating layout offers second-row captain chairs or bench options that slide, recline, and fold independently, allowing for 7 or 8-seater configurations. These setups incorporate third-row 60:40 split benches to maximize cabin flexibility.

Rear passengers are provided with dedicated air-conditioning vents with independent controls, reading lamps, power outlets, and cup holders in the armrests. Combined with generous legroom and headroom, these features ensure comfort for all occupants on long family trips.

The Innova Hycross exterior is defined by its substantial footprint and modern detailing, creating a cohesive look that emphasizes both scale and functionality.

From the front the Innova Hycross gets a wide grille with a metal surround, flanked by LED projector headlamps and daytime running lights. Select trims further enhance this look with integrated fog lamps.

On the side, clean character lines and blacked-out A and B-pillars define the silhouette. These elements are supported by an overall length of 4755 mm and a 2850 mm wheelbase, giving the vehicle balanced proportions. Depending on the trim, the profile is finished with roof rails, puddle lamps, and 17-inch alloy wheels

Finally, the design is rounded off at the rear by connected LED tail lamps that span the width of the tailgate. This section maintains a focus on utility with a high-opening lid and a standard rear wiper and washer.

The Innova Hycross received a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP testing conducted in 2025, scoring 30.47 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 for child occupant protection.

Standard safety equipment includes six or seven SRS airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist control and traction control. Higher trims add Toyota Safety Sense with pre-collision system, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams and road sign assist.

The Innova Hycross closely competes with the Maruti Suzuki Invicto and the Kia Carnival in its segment.

The Invicto shares the identical hybrid powertrain, 23.24 kmpl ARAI mileage, wheelbase and cabin layout with the Hycross, but differentiates itself through a distinct front grille and Maruti’s widespread service network. It also benefits from slightly lower maintenance costs owing to Maruti's affordable spare parts availability across the country.

The Carnival counters with a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a more upscale cabin finish with larger overall dimensions, while the Hycross maintains an edge in hybrid fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The Carnival additionally provides a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats in higher trims, and superior sound insulation. Conversely, the Hycross excels in urban commuting with its hybrid system, compact footprint that aids easier maneuverability, and a CVT gearbox.
