Gone are the days when the 9-seater segment had multiple options like the Tata Sumo, Chevrolet Tavera, and Mahindra Xylo, among others. If you are looking to buy a 9-seater car today, your options are limited to just two Mahindra models: the Bolero Neo Plus and Scorpio Classic. Both are rugged, ladder-frame, diesel-powered SUVs aimed at large families and commercial use.

Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus

Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus

The Bolero Neo Plus is a practical, no-frills, rugged 9-seater with boxy, muscular styling and a high ground clearance (180mm). Design highlights include a chrome grille, halogen headlamps, and 16-inch alloys on the higher variant.

The cabin is functional with a 9-inch touchscreen (Android Auto/Apple CarPlay in higher trims), manual AC with rear vents, power windows, dual airbags, ABS, and ISOFIX mounts.

It offers generous space with a 2,680mm wheelbase, comfortable front and middle rows, and side-facing third-row jump seats. Boot space stands at 696 litres with the third row seats folded.

Power comes from a 2.2L mHawk diesel (118-120 bhp, 280 Nm) paired to a 6-speed manual transmission and a rear-wheel drivetrain.

The Bolero Neo Plus comes in two variants and is priced between ₹10.90 lakh and ₹11.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra Scorpio Classic (9-seater)

Mahindra Scorpio Classic

The Scorpio Classic delivers bold SUV styling with a tall stance, tough road presence, and 215mm ground clearance. Its base S variant is pretty bare bones with just basic essentials like power windows, reverse parking sensors, rear AC vents, ABS with EBD, and front dual airbags.

Space is decent in the first two rows, thanks to its 2,680mm wheelbase, while the third row uses side-facing jump seats, best suited for shorter trips. It offers 460 litres of boot space with the third row not in use.

The Scorpio’s 2.2L mHawk diesel produces 130-132 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual and RWD.

The Mahindra Scorpio is priced at ₹13.19 lakh for the S 9-seater variant. It is worth noting that the 9-seater configuration is not available on the higher S11 variant.

Pre-Owned Options

You can also find discontinued, but well-kept 9-seater SUVs and MPVs in the used market at much lower prices.

The Mahindra Xylo is widely available, with well-maintained examples from ₹3-8 lakh. Tata Sumo Gold/Victa variants (often 9-10 seaters) start from ₹1.5 lakh. Older Mahindra Scorpio and Bolero 9-seater configurations are also common, typically around ₹4-5 lakh depending on year and condition. These options offer rugged utility but may require thorough checks for maintenance history.

Both new and used vehicles mentioned prioritise durability and practicality over outright luxury.
