Tata Motors developed the Avinya platform as a dedicated Generation-3 electric vehicle framework, moving away from modified internal combustion engine (ICE) architectures like those used in earlier product lines. Rather than using Jaguar Land Rover's Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) as originally planned, Tata shifted to the Chery-Jaguar Land Rover (CJLR) Freelander EV platform base.
This platform sharing lowers structural development costs while allowing Tata to handle vehicle design, cabin ergonomics, software architecture, and final assembly at its Panapakkam manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.
Mechanical layout on the Gen-3 platform utilizes a flat-floor skateboard setup with a long wheelbase and short overhangs.
Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated:
“The design is going to be completely in our control. Manufacturing is going to be with us. There are certain things we have to do ourselves. There is integration work that we will work on our side. It is the best-of-the-best that we are combining to ensure that when we come into a premium segment, we come with the best technology stack that is needed in the premium segment.”
By pushing the wheels to the chassis corners and eliminating the central transmission tunnel, the architecture maximizes interior cabin volume relative to the footprint. Structurally, the frame supports an 800V electrical system designed for energy management, high thermal efficiency, and peak DC fast-charging rates up to 350 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in under 30 minutes.
Battery capacity options range between 65 kWh and 80 kWh, targeting driving ranges beyond 500 kilometers.
On software, Avinya functions as a Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) using centralized domain controllers rather than scattered electronic control units (ECUs). This hardware configuration supports over-the-air firmware updates and Level 2+ Autonomous Driving hardware suites.

Mahindra INGLO Architecture

Mahindra’s INGLO architecture is a modular skateboard platform engineered specifically for high-ground-clearance SUVs. Mechanical design centers on placing a structural floor-mounted battery pack between the front and rear axles to achieve a 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution and lower the vehicle's center of gravity.
The chassis utilizes a compact 3-in-1 electric drive module that integrates the electric motor, power electronics inverter, and single-speed reduction transmission into a single housing mounted on the rear axle for standard rear-wheel-drive configurations.
To scale manufacturing, Mahindra partnered with the Volkswagen Group to source key electrical components and battery cells. Under this agreement, INGLO models utilize components from Volkswagen's MEB platform along with standardized Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) unified cell chemistries.
R Velusamy, President of Automotive Product Development at Mahindra & Mahindra, detailed the mechanical target:
“INGLO platform was conceived with a singular focus: to maximise efficiency and usability for EVs. Unlike many EV platforms that adapt existing architectures, the platform was built from the ground up with EV-specific requirements in mind. It incorporates a balanced 50:50 weight distribution, thanks to a rear-wheel-drive configuration and a centrally placed battery pack.”

The platform offers battery capacity configurations of 59 kWh and 79 kWh, with rear-motor power outputs ranging from 231 PS (228 bhp) to 286 PS (282 bhp) and 380 Nm of torque. Fast-charging capabilities allow an 180 kW DC fast-charger to replenish the 79 kWh pack from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes.
Chassis hardware includes MacPherson strut front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, intelligent semi-active frequency-dependent dampers, and a variable gear ratio electric steering system.
