Lexus ES New Generation Overview

Lexus has confirmed the all new ES will arrive in India on March 20, 2026, less than a year after its global debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025. This marks the eighth generation of the luxury sedan and it is built on a new platform that supports both hybrid and fully electric powertrains for the first time.
The India specification model is expected to focus on the hybrid variant, likely using a 2.5 litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor for a smooth and efficient driving experience. With a longer wheelbase, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced refinement, the new ES aims to deliver greater comfort than the outgoing model.
Key features will include the latest Lexus Safety System Plus suite, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and premium cabin materials. Positioned as one of the brand’s flagship sedans globally, the ES targets buyers looking to upgrade from entry level luxury cars or those wanting a quiet, technology focused alternative to traditional German sedans.
interior
The cabin has been redesigned with a more spacious layout and a strong focus on premium materials and driver oriented ergonomics.
A large central touchscreen measuring over 14 inches sits at the center of the dashboard and runs the latest Lexus infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice commands, and over the air software updates.
A fully digital instrument cluster, expected to be around 12.3 inches, provides customizable driving information. Higher variants are also likely to offer a head up display for easier access to navigation and vehicle data.
Rear passengers benefit from increased legroom and headroom along with rear climate controls and optional entertainment screens.
Additional features are expected to include ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a premium Mark Levinson audio system. The overall interior theme focuses on minimalism, comfort, and quiet luxury.
exterior
The new ES adopts a coupe inspired four door sedan design with a fastback roofline, longer hood, and shorter overhangs, giving it a more dynamic yet elegant appearance. The front fascia features the signature spindle grille with an illuminated Lexus logo, slim matrix LED headlamps, and sharp L shaped daytime running lights.
From the side, the sedan showcases flush door handles, sculpted character lines, and aerodynamic alloy wheels expected to range between 18 and 19 inches. The rear design includes connected LED tail lamps with a full width light bar, a subtle diffuser, and a cleaner tailgate design that improves aerodynamic efficiency.
Overall length has increased slightly to enhance proportions and cabin space. At the same time, aerodynamic improvements reduce drag, which helps improve efficiency and keeps the cabin quieter at highway speeds.
safety
The new ES will feature the latest Lexus Safety System Plus suite with advanced driver assistance technologies.
Expected features include adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and traffic sign recognition.
The sedan will also include multiple airbags, a reinforced body structure, and advanced crash avoidance technologies. Additional safety equipment is likely to include a 360 degree camera system, tyre pressure monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
The platform uses high strength steel and a lower center of gravity due to battery placement, which improves stability and overall crash protection.
competition
The next generation ES will compete with several midsize luxury sedans in India. Key rivals include the BMW 3 Series LWB, Mercedes Benz C Class, and Audi A4. It will also indirectly compete with models such as the Volvo S60 and Genesis G70 in global markets.
With strong hybrid efficiency, excellent ride comfort, and Lexus reliability, the ES aims to attract buyers looking for a quiet and technologically advanced luxury sedan.
