Hyundai Exter Facelift

The Exter makes a strong case for itself in Hyundai’s SUV lineup, as it comes with four airbags, which is standard on every variant and a bi-fuel Hy-CNG Duo option that keeps the running costs conversation open. Top variants get Bluelink connected car tech, a voice-enabled sunroof, and over-the-air updates. It is genuinely well-equipped for its size, and the spec sheet knows it.

Hyundai Exter Facelift Overview

The Hyundai Exter sits at the compact end of the SUV ladder, measuring 3,830 mm in length with a 2,450 mm wheelbase.

Making the most of these dimensions, the exterior carries SUV-inspired cues, skid plates, roof rails, a raised stance within a footprint that stays city-friendly.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder petrol engine, available with either a 5-speed manual or a Smart Auto AMT (automated manual transmission). Alongside this, a bi-fuel Hy-CNG Duo variant, capable of running on both petrol and CNG is also on offer.

Inside the cabin, four airbags are fitted as standard across the entire range, which is uncommon at this price point. Higher variants add a sunroof, Bluelink connected car features, a digital instrument cluster with a colour TFT display, and climate control.

engine and performance

The Exter runs on Hyundai's 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 82 hp at 6,000 rpm and 113.8 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It's paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a Smart Auto AMT.

Expanding on these powertrain choices, a bi-fuel Hy-CNG Duo variant pairs the same engine with factory-fitted CNG hardware. In CNG mode, outputs drop to 68 hp and 95.2 Nm, a standard trade-off with CNG, as the fuel burns at lower pressure than petrol. Because of this specific setup, the CNG variant is only available with a 5-speed manual, meaning the AMT option is exclusive to the petrol-only versions.

fuel economy

The Exter's petrol variants carry a 37-litre fuel tank. The Hy-CNG Duo bi-fuel variant retains the same 37-litre petrol capacity and adds a CNG cylinder rated at 60 litres in water equivalent, the standard unit used to measure CNG storage by comparative volume.

Translating these capacities into range, the standard petrol engine achieves an official 19.4 kmpl, while opting for the AMT yields a closely matched 19.2 kmpl. For buyers prioritizing maximum efficiency, the factory-fitted CNG manual variant extends those figures significantly, boasting an ARAI-certified return of 27.1 km/kg. However, as with all official ratings, real-world fuel economy will vary based on driving conditions, traffic, vehicle load, and individual driving style.

interior

The facelift retains its practical, tall-boy layout and generous headroom while upgrading to a premium dual-tone Navy Blue and Grey theme with improved upholstery. Matching these aesthetic updates, overall comfort and ergonomics see a boost with a height-adjustable driver's seat, a folding front armrest, and standard adjustable rear headrests across all variants.

For the driver, a new flat-bottom steering wheel and segment-first metal pedals add a sporty touch, framing an updated dashboard that features a semi-digital instrument cluster and an integrated dashcam. This modernized setup incorporates key tech upgrades, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (via an adapter) alongside an expanded Bluelink suite offering over 60 connected features, OTA updates, and 300+ offline voice commands.

Alongside the updated technology, everyday usability is maintained with thoughtful storage, a rear USB Type-C port, an electric sunroof, and a 391-litre boot.

exterior

The facelift retains its boxy proportions and a 185mm ground clearance while introducing sharper, streamlined styling. Up front, it features a reworked gloss-black grille and revised bumpers with silver skid plates. The familiar split-headlamps and H-shaped LED DRLs remain, though the black connecting strip now sports updated 'EXTER' lettering.

Along the sides, the muscular wheel-arch cladding and tall greenhouse are unchanged but now sit on new 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Golden Bronze and Titanium Black Matte join the color lineup, alongside the continuing Ranger Khaki dual-tone option. At the rear, updates include a revised tailgate, a new two-part wing spoiler, and a reworked bumper with a faux diffuser and vertical reflectors. Subtly redesigned detailing on the strip connecting the LED taillights completes the modernized exterior.
