The Hyundai's Exter facelift is a 5-seater priced from ₹5.80 lakh to ₹9.60 lakh (ex-showroom), and spanning seven variants from the base HX2 to the top HX10.

Here we have explained all Exter variants, however as the Fronx is a close rival, you may want to check out its breakdown as well.

It is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83 PS and 113.8 Nm, with manual or AMT options, plus a CNG alternative.

Meanwhile, fuel efficiency reaches 19.4 kmpl for petrol and 27.1 km/kg for CNG.

Standard equipment is impressive, bundling 6 airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, rear sensors, ISOFIX, driver seat height adjustment, and a folding armrest.

Exter HX2

Hyundai Exter Atlas White Exterior Front Side View

The HX2 is aimed at first-time buyers wanting a proper SUV body style without spending beyond ₹6 lakh. It justifies this with standard safety features like 6 airbags, ESC, hill-start assist, and rear sensors, a safety net few rivals offer.

The trade-off is a bare cabin missing daily essentials: no infotainment screen, rear AC vents, or rear power windows.

If budget is your absolute constraint, the HX2 makes sense. But if you can stretch even a little, the HX3 unlocks meaningful day-to-day conveniences.

Skip unless budget is the major deciding factor.

Exter HX3

The HX3 brings daily essentials: an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a rear camera, electric mirrors, rear power windows, and a rear Type-C port.

It perfectly targets hatchback upgraders wanting modern connectivity without committing to a higher price.

However, one gap is rear AC vents, which only arrive from the HX4 upwards.

The available CNG option makes it a sensible pick for high-mileage city users wanting lower running costs.

Buy it if you want connected features at a fair price and can live without climate control.

Exter HX4

The HX4 addresses the HX3's notable gaps with rear AC vents and LED DRLs for a slightly more premium look. Dual-tone R15 steel wheels are an appreciated visual upgrade.

Hitting a sweet spot, it covers the essentials for families and frequent commuters without pushing into premium territory.

The available CNG option makes the running cost argument even stronger for high-mileage users.

However, if an electric sunroof and keyless entry matter to you, stepping up to the HX4+ is worth the stretch.

Exter HX4+

The HX4+ is the most affordable Exter with an electric sunroof, push-button start, and electrically folding mirrors, meaningful quality-of-life upgrades.

Notably, it only comes as a petrol AMT, missing a manual option.

If you want a sunroof plus a complete feature set, the HX6 is a better buy, adding projector headlamps, FATC, and roof rails.

Buy the HX4+ only if an AMT with a sunroof and keyless entry at the lowest possible price is exactly what you want.

Exter HX6

The HX6 makes the most sense for the majority of buyers. It adds projector headlamps, fully automatic temperature control (FATC), roof rails, a shark fin antenna, cruise control, and a smart key with push-button start—features missing on lower trims.

This usability jump over the HX4 makes the HX6 the natural mid-range choice.

It also offers the lineup's widest powertrain variety, available in petrol manual and AMT, alongside Dual Tone configurations for both.

Exter HX8

The HX8 shifts the Exter into premium territory, adding diamond-cut alloys, a leatherette steering wheel and gear knob, a wireless charger, and footwell lighting, features focused on feel over raw usability.

Unusually for this equipment level, a CNG variant is available, making a strong case for an economical yet loaded daily driver.

Given the major price gap, practical buyers might find the HX6 suffices. It is for buyers who want the feel of a premium cabin in a compact package.

The CNG version in particular is worth considering if you are an efficiency-first buyer.

Exter HX10

The top-spec HX10 is the only Exter offering Hyundai Bluelink, a dashcam, HD navigation, metal pedals, and Alexa H2C.

Bluelink’s connected features and SOS switch are particularly useful for those who park in commercial areas or travel alone.

Like the HX4+, the HX10 is AMT-only, but it importantly includes paddle shifters.

The price jump from the HX8 is steep. If you do not actively use connected features, the HX8 saves a meaningful sum without sacrificing much you will notice on a daily commute.

Every Exter features 6 airbags as standard, which is usual in this segment where just dual airbags remain the norm. It also includes ESC, hill-start assist, and vehicle stability management, which are not popular below ₹8 lakh.

The 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine ensures a noticeably smoother feel in heavy traffic, while the 391-litre boot is one of the segment's roomiest, offering a distinct advantage for those carrying extra luggage or groceries.
