Tata Aeris To Debut On September 25, Expected To Replace Tigor

Tata's new compact sedan is called the Aeris, and it is set to debut on 25 September 2026. The company has officially confirmed the name and debut date, while its latest teaser gives the first official look at parts of the exterior. Pricing, specifications and the full exterior remain under wraps until the launch.

The Aeris is reported to be taking over from the Tigor in Tata's lineup, although Tata has not yet made an explicit statement discontinuing the Tigor. It retains the basic sub-4-metre sedan format of the Tigor, while Tata has given the updated model a new name.

Tata Aeris: What Is It?

The Aeris is a sub-4-metre sedan that will directly replace the Tigor in Tata's passenger car lineup. It sits on the same platform as the Tiago and carries the general proportions of its predecessor, including the notchback-style silhouette Tata has stuck with since the Tigor's debut. But this is far more than a facelift with a new badge.

A fresh name signals a proper generational step. Tata appears to be distancing the Aeris from both the Tigor's modest market performance and the Xpres fleet sedan that still shares its underpinnings.

Tata Aeris Design: What Does the Teaser Reveal?

From the official teaser stills, the Aeris gets full LED headlamps with a slim LED DRL bar across the top, sharper body creasing along the sides, and an LED fog lamp in a revised front bumper. The rear has not been revealed but a small portion of the tail light is visible from side rear view.

The purple shade previewed in the teaser is new to Tata's sedan range, and it reads premium rather than flashy. The rest of the body stays under wraps until launch day, so any further design claims are still expectation rather than confirmation.

Tata Aeris Engine and Gearbox Options

The Aeris is expected to carry the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine used in the Tiago, producing around 86 PS and 113 Nm. Both a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT are expected with the petrol. A factory-fitted CNG variant is also anticipated, with outputs dropping to roughly 76 PS and 97 Nm in that configuration.

There is no confirmed turbo petrol at this stage, which keeps the Aeris on familiar ground but does leave a small gap against the Dzire's slightly punchier 89 PS unit.

Tata Aeris Features and Safety

Based on the recently updated Tiago, the Aeris is expected to get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera and rear AC vents. A digital instrument cluster and other cabin updates are also expected.

Six airbags are also expected, although Tata has not confirmed the complete safety equipment list yet.

Tata Aeris Price and Rivals

The Aeris is expected to be priced in the Rs 6-10 lakh (ex-showroom) range. The final variant-wise prices will be announced at launch. That positions it directly against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Honda Amaze, three cars that have largely held the compact sedan segment together while the rest of the market shifted to compact SUVs.

An electric Aeris.ev, following the Tiago.ev template, is also a logical next step that Tata has not ruled out.
