Hyundai Bayon Spied Testing Again: New Design Details Revealed

Hyundai is preparing to expand its model range in India with the Bayon. This compact crossover will bridge the gap between the Exter and the Venue. Recent spy shots from testing sessions in South Korea, courtesy of Autospy.net, show more details of this upcoming compact crossover. 

Design Details

The latest spy images reveal a more crossover styling rather than a traditional compact SUV shape. This is clear from the side profile with its sleek lines and balanced proportions. 

The front features ice-cube-like LED headlamps, positioned below the sleek LED daytime running strips. Interestingly, the DRL is not a connected unit, unlike many modern Hyundai models in India. The grille features horizontal slats for an aggressive look. 

At the rear, sleek LED taillamps echo the front DRL design for consistency. The tailgate includes a well-designed spoiler that adds a sporty look. A shark fin antenna sits on the roof, adding to the modern appeal, and while it gets roof rails, they are purely for style over substance. The alloy wheels on the test mule stand out with a large, likely 17-inch, petal-shaped diamond-cut dual-tone design. Indian models will likely get 16-inchers. 

Other areas like bumpers and side cladding remain camouflaged, hiding further design details.

The interior has not been shown yet. However, it is expected to offer a modern and feature-packed cabin. Hyundai could borrow elements from the Exter and Venue, such as a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity. Other possible additions include automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, and a sunroof. 

Powertrain Options

Engine options could be derived from Hyundai's existing range - a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (83 bhp, 114 Nm), and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol (118 bhp, 172 Nm) or a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol that is expected to replace the 1.0-litre unit across Hyundai’s range. Transmission options could include a five-speed manual or a CVT for the naturally aspirated engine. Turbo variants could get a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Launch and Pricing

The Hyundai Bayon’s launch timeline remains unknown. It could arrive by late (Q3) 2026 or early 2027. Prices are expected to start at ₹7 lakh and reach up to ₹13 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions it against rivals like the Maruti Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
