Mahindra's Scorpio Classic is still very much the old-school Scorpio, featuring a tall and tough-looking look, while the newer Scorpio-N has moved the nameplate into a more modern, polished space.

The Classic whereas sticks to the formula that made the original popular, but it feels a little dated.

It features a high seating position, tough mechanicals and proven durability for tough daily use with low maintenance costs and widespread service support.

We have detailed the full variant breakdown of the Scorpio Classic, following our same breakdown for the Bolero.

Mahindra Scorpio Classic Prices And Variants Summary

The Scorpio Classic comes in just two variants: S and S11, with the former priced at ₹12.99 lakh ex-showroom in 7-seater side-facing configuration, and at ₹13.44 lakh for the 9-seater. Note that the 9-seater is exclusive to this base variant.

The top-spec Classic S11 is priced at ₹16.99 lakh regardless of whether you pick the 7-seater side-facing or the 7-seater captain chair layout, so your seating choice costs you nothing extra.

The gap between the base S and the S11 is roughly ₹4 lakh at the comparable 7-seater level. For a car that starts at roughly ₹13 lakh, that's a 30% jump to get to the top variant, which is a wider gap than most two-variant lineups justify easily.

Every Scorpio Classic, regardless of variant, features the same 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine that produces 97 kW (approx 132 hp) and 300 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual with cable shift. The suspension, tyres and brakes are also identical, along with the 235/65 R17 tyres, and front discs and rear drums.

Both variants also get the 22.86 cm touchscreen with Bluetooth, USB, aux and phone mirroring, plus projector headlamps with LED eyebrows, LED tail lamps, DRLs, 2nd-row AC vents, tilt steering, rear wash/wipe, 12V outlet and foot step.

On safety, dual airbags, ABS, ESC, panic brake indication, collapsible steering column, immobiliser, seat belt reminders, speed alert and auto door lock, are standard too.

However, it has not been crash-tested by either Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP, and it misses side and curtain airbags as well as the broader electronic safety systems found on newer platforms. Its older platform and predecessor models however earned a 0-star Global NCAP rating.

This may not be a dealbreaker for every buyer, but it is worth considering for families.

Here is what you get with each of the Scorpio Classic variants sitting comfortably under 25 lakhs:

Who Should Buy The Mahindra Scorpio Classic S Base Model?

The S variant makes its strongest case only in its exclusive 9-seater configuration at ₹13.44 lakh. It is also a no-nonsense option for rural buyers, small businesses, or for moving people with high usage. Notably, it has very few direct rivals at this price point.

By no-nonsense, it means the base S is highly barebones by modern SUV standards and is better suited for buyers who don’t care a lot about touchscreen, alloys, camera, DRLs, cruise control, etc.

This is especially evident with these trade-offs: vinyl upholstery instead of fabric, power window switches placed on the centre console instead of the doors, no front armrest, manual AC controls, no remote central locking, among other lacking features.

This interior feels basic, including the limited cupholders and fit-finish, that can feel dated compared to more modern SUVs.

Who Should Buy The Mahindra Scorpio Classic S11 Model?

The S11 is the only variant in the Scorpio Classic range that feels like a properly equipped upgrade rather than a stripped-down people-mover. It however sacrifices the 9-seat option, and is better suited for more personal use.

Even here, the interior remains basic with noticeable fit-and-finish shortcomings, and limited storage solutions. That said, it upgrades to fabric upholstery over vinyl, fully automatic temperature control, electric ORVMs, remote central locking, cruise control, steering-mounted controls, driver seat height adjustment, and a front armrest.

On the outside, diamond-cut alloys and painted side cladding give it a noticeably more premium presence compared to the steel wheels on base S.

Go for the captain chair 7-seater at ₹16.99 lakh. It is available at the same price as the side-facing 7-seater option but provides better comfort and a removable third row for flexible cargo space.

Note that at about ₹50,000 more, the ₹17.49 lakh Scorpio-N Z4 diesel is a stronger alternative to the Classic S11, unless you specifically prefer the latter's old-school appeal.
