Automatic transmissions on motorcycles, be it semi or full, are gradually becoming more common by the day, with manufacturers offering this technology on their premium models.

These systems reduce fatigue in city traffic and on long rides, without compromising on the fun of motorcycling.

Here are the major models with a semi or fully automatic transmission already on sale in India, or are sold overseas and set to arrive here.

Honda NX500 (E-Clutch)

Honda NX500 E-Clutch

Recently updated for 2026, the Honda NX500 is a versatile middleweight adventure bike with rally-inspired styling, a comfortable upright position and a 471cc parallel-twin engine delivering around 47 hp. It suits both city rides and light off-road trails with good fuel efficiency.

It uses Honda’s E-Clutch system, a semi-automatic technology. Small electric motors and sensors automatically control the clutch pack. When you press the gear lever pedal, the system smoothly disengages and re-engages the clutch without any input from the clutch lever.

This system prevents stalling at stops and during slow riding. You can still use the clutch lever anytime to override the system and ride with full manual control.

Honda Gold Wing (DCT)

The Honda Gold Wing is a premium luxury tourer known for its smooth 1833cc flat-six engine, excellent comfort and advanced features like a large TFT display and audio system. It is ideal for long highway journeys with a passenger.

It features Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), a fully automatic system with two separate clutches for odd (1,3,5) and even (2,4,6) gears. While one clutch is engaged, the other pre-selects the next gear. The system then smoothly switches power between them for seamless shifts with no power loss.

It works automatically or via handlebar buttons.

BMW F 450 GS (ERC)

BMW F 450 GS

The BMW F 450 GS is a capable entry-level adventure bike with a parallel-twin engine, agile handling and strong off-road potential. It appeals to riders seeking versatility for daily use and weekend getaways.

It comes with Easy Ride Clutch (ERC), a semi-automatic centrifugal clutch system. A special centrifugal unit inside the clutch automatically engages based on the engine's rpm - at higher revs it grips firmly for power delivery, while at idle or low speeds it slips to prevent stalling.

Gearshifts can be controlled normally with the foot lever, and the hand clutch lever is rarely required during normal, city rides.

BMW R 1300 GSA (ASA)

BMW R 1300 GSA

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is a flagship adventure tourer with a powerful 1300cc boxer engine, long-travel suspension and excellent long-distance capabilities loaded with touring features.

It offers the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), a semi-automatic system. Two electromechanical actuators control the clutch and gear changes electronically. Sensors monitor engine speed, throttle and rider input.

The system can fully automate starting, stopping and shifting, or let you shift manually with the foot lever while it handles the clutch.

KTM 1390 Super Adventure S Evo (AMT)

KTM 1390 Super Adventure S Evo

The KTM 1390 Super Adventure S Evo is a high-performance adventure bike with a potent 1350cc V-twin engine, advanced electronics and sporty yet comfortable ergonomics for serious touring and riding fun.

It features KTM’s Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). It combines a centrifugal clutch for smooth take-offs with an electromechanical actuator for gear shifts.

Riders can select fully automatic mode where the system handles everything based on throttle and riding conditions, or manual mode using the foot lever or paddles. The shifts are quick, taking just around 50 milliseconds.

Honda XL750 Transalp E-Clutch

The Honda XL750 Transalp is a balanced adventure motorcycle with a 755cc parallel-twin engine, comfortable seating and capable suspension for mixed road and light off-road use.

Just like the NX500, it also uses Honda’s E-Clutch technology. Electric motors mounted on the clutch cover, guided by sensors and the bike’s ECU, automatically operate the clutch. Riders just have to control the gear lever to shift up or down.

It eliminates stalling and makes traffic riding easy while allowing full manual control with the clutch lever whenever you want.

Honda Africa Twin (DCT)

Honda Africa Twin

The Honda Africa Twin is a legendary adventure bike with a strong 1080cc parallel-twin engine, robust build and proven off-road ability combined with touring comfort.

Similar to the Goldwing, it offers a DCT option, with clutches work in tandem for odd and even gears. Computer-controlled hydraulic actuators manage clutch engagement and gear changes for quick, smooth power delivery without interruption.

You can leave it in automatic mode or use handlebar buttons for manual shifts.
