Ather Electric Scooters Now Available Through CSD From September 2026, With Additional Discounts

Ather Energy has received government approval to list its electric scooters on the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) portal, with sales expected to begin in September 2026. This gives eligible armed forces personnel, veterans, and their families a dedicated channel to buy Ather scooters at a lower effective cost than the open market.

What Is CSD and Why Does It Matter

The CSD is a government-run retail network under the Ministry of Defence. Purchases made through it are eligible for GST concessions, which already bring the effective price down meaningfully compared to standard ex-showroom pricing.

What makes this more interesting is that Ather is adding its own manufacturer discount on top, creating a two-layer saving. The exact variant-wise benefit has not yet been disclosed, so the final CSD prices are still awaited.

Eight variants across the Ather 450 range (priced from Rs 1.36 lakh) and the Rizta family scooter line-up (from Rs 1.21 lakh) have been approved for the CSD channel. The only model kept out is the 450 Apex, which sits at Rs 1.95 lakh and is the performance outlier in Ather's portfolio.

Ather is among the first two electric two-wheeler manufacturers in India to have its products listed on CSD. Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, noted that a big part of expanding EV ownership is simply making sure the product is where customers already are, and that CSD does exactly that at scale.

It is also worth noting that Ather operates what it claims is the widest two-wheeler fast-charging network in India, the Ather Grid, which is designed and built in-house. For defence personnel posted across varied locations, that charging infrastructure is arguably as relevant as the CSD listing itself.
