The transition from fossil fuels isn't just about batteries anymore, as flex-fuel technology is gaining more momentum. But what’s driving this push, and why should you care about the upcoming wave of flex-fuel bikes?

At its core, a flex-fuel engine dynamically adjusts to run on varying petrol-ethanol blends, from standard E20 (20% ethanol) up to pure E100.

By ramping up ethanol adoption, the government aims to slash crude imports, lower emissions, and secure energy independence without relying entirely on a volatile EV supply chain.

Hero MotoCorp is set to launch India’s first E100-compatible flex-fuel bike on June 3. Unveiled by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri, the launch marks a major leap for mass-market ethanol adoption.

While the exact model remains under wraps, it is highly expected to be based on a commuter icon like the Splendor Plus or HF Deluxe, the latter having already surfaced as a flex-fuel prototype at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.
