Volkswagen has shared a teaser for its upcoming SUV, the Tayron, which is headed to the Indian market.

This model is a seven-seater vehicle that builds on the popular Tiguan but adds an extra row of seats for more space. It aims to fill a gap in the premium SUV segment after the Tiguan Allspace was discontinued a few years ago.

Volkswagen Tayron Exterior Design

The Tayron could stand out with its modern design. The teaser revealed a full-width LED light bar that connects the headlights, along with an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The grille seems wide and bold, giving the Tayron a strong presence.

On the sides, expect sporty alloy wheels, possibly up to 19 inches, and sleek lines that make it look dynamic. At the rear, connected LED taillights add to the stylish appeal, with unique patterns that set it apart from other models.

In terms of size, the Tayron will be about 200 mm longer than the standard Tiguan, with a stretched wheelbase.

Inside, the Tayron could borrow elements from the Tiguan's cabin, but it will offer more room for families. Its longer dimensions and wheelbase should provide usable space in the back seats, with a boot space of around 345 litres, expandable further with the third row folded down.

It is expected to feature a large 15-inch touchscreen for infotainment, a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, various connected car features, and three-zone climate control. Other highlights may include a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated and massaging front seats, wireless charging for phones, and a powered tailgate.

Safety features could include 9 airbags, ESP, Traction Control, TPMS, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, and a 360-degree camera, among others.

Volkswagen Tayron Powertrains

Under the hood, the Tayron will likely use a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that delivers around 200 BHP and 320 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. All-wheel drive might be available on top variants.

The SUV sits on the MQB Evo platform, shared with the Tiguan R-Line and Skoda Kodiaq, which ensures a solid build and offers good driving dynamics.

Volkswagen plans to assemble the Tayron from CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits at its plant in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, with prices likely ranging from ₹45 to ₹50 lakh. Its launch date remains under wraps.

Like the Tiguan, the Tayron could also come in a sporty R-Line variant. The Tayron would rival the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian in the premium three-row SUV category.
