Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Launch Tomorrow: What to Expect?

Toyota is about to enter the electric SUV market in India with the Urban Cruiser EV. This model shares its platform with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

Set for reveal on January 20, 2026, it is Toyota's first mainstream EV in India.

The Urban Cruiser EV will sport a fresh look with slim LED headlights and daytime running lights in a pixel pattern. A strong front bumper could give it a tough vibe, while the sides feature flared arches and wheels designed for better airflow. At the rear, expect connected LED taillights and a wide bumper. Overall, it will measure around 4.3 meters long with a wheelbase of 2.7 metres.

The cabin is likely to use a layout identical to the e Vitara, but Toyota could add its own touch with different colours. Features could include a large 10.1-inch touchscreen for infotainment and a 10.25-inch digital display for the driver, along with ventilated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging, and a fixed glass roof.

The Urban Cruiser EV is expected to drive the front wheels with a single electric motor. Choices could include a 49 kWh battery pack making around 140 BHP and 190 Nm of torque with an estimated 344 km range, or a bigger 61 kWh one with around 172 BHP and a longer 543 km range. Only a FWD drivetrain is expected as of now.

Safety could be strong, with seven airbags, ESP, TPMS, Level 2 ADAS, a surround view camera, and front and rear parking sensors. The 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for the e Vitara should be applicable to the Toyota as well.

Prices for the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV could start from ₹20 lakh and go up to ₹25 lakh, positioning it as an affordable premium EV. It will face off against models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, and the Maruti e Vitara.
