if you've been waiting for Toyota to bring something truly electric and practical to India, the Urban Cruiser Ebella is it. This mid-size SUV blends bold looks, modern tech, and Toyota's legendary dependability into one appealing package. Built on a dedicated EV platform, it offers two battery choices—49 kWh and 61 kWh—delivering agile, silent performance with instant torque. Features like ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and connected tech make it feel premium, while ownership perks such as an 8-year battery warranty, Battery-as-a-Service options, and 60% buyback assurance show Toyota's commitment to easing EV worries. It's aimed at urban drivers who value efficiency and trust.

engine and performance

It comes with a single front-mounted electric motor. The 49 kWh variant delivers around 144 hp (106 kW) and 189 Nm of torque, while the larger 61 kWh pack ups it to about 174 hp (128 kW) with the same punchy 189 Nm.

At the heart are durable Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries—49 kWh or 61 kWh. The bigger one claims an impressive ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km on a single charge, perfect for longer trips with less range anxiety. The motor pairs seamlessly for efficient power delivery.

The Ebella supports both AC home charging and DC fast charging (via CCS2 connector, with the port neatly tucked on the front fender). For most owners, the sweet spot is a wall-mounted AC charger at home. With a standard 7 kW AC charger, the 49 kWh battery fills from 10-100% in about 6.5 hours, while the bigger 61 kWh pack takes around 9 hours

Upgrade to an 11 kW AC charger (if your home setup allows), and times drop to 4.5 hours for the smaller battery and 5.5 hours for the larger one. Toyota even offers wall-mounted home charging solutions through their dealers, so installation is hassle-free.

On the road, DC fast charging shines for longer trips or quick top-ups: both battery variants can go from 10-80% in just 45 minutes at a compatible public station. That's super convenient for highway stops, and Toyota has partnered with networks like ChargeZone and Jio-bp to expand fast-charging access across India.

interior

Step inside and it's a dual-tone black and red cabin—sporty red accents on seats, dashboard bits, and doors give it a premium, energetic feel over plain black. Soft-touch materials on top surfaces, leatherette upholstery, and gloss black trim. Dual screens dominate: 10.1-inch digital driver display + 10.25-inch touchscreen.

Ventilated front seats, 10-way electric driver adjustment, panoramic sunroof, 12-color ambient lighting, JBL sound system, wireless charger, sliding/reclining rear seats (40:20:40 split), and plenty of storage. It's quiet thanks to EV nature, feels spacious for four adults, and the red-black theme makes it stand out from boring interiors.

exterior

The Ebella looks like a modern compact SUV with good road presence. Front has slim LED headlights, connected DRLs, and a closed grille for that EV clean look. Sides show 18-inch alloys, black cladding, and decent ground clearance for potholes around Haryana.

Rear gets connected LED taillights, a small spoiler, and a beefy bumper. Toyota made it distinct from the Maruti twin with unique grille and badging. Available in five monotone colors (Cafe White, Bluish Black, Gaming Grey, Sportin Red, Enticing Silver) and four dual-tone with black roof. Overall size is about 4.28 meters long, wheelbase 2.7 meters—fits well in city parking.

safety

Safety feels reassuring in the Ebella, with 7 airbags standard across variants, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring. It steps up with Level 2 ADAS (think adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, and more), a 360-degree camera for easy parking, and other driver aids.

Toyota's build quality shines through, giving you confidence on busy roads or highways solid structure meets modern tech for family peace of mind.

competition

The Ebella jumps into a hot compact/mid-size EV SUV segment. It takes on the Maruti e-Vitara (its close cousin), Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and upcoming VinFast VF6. What sets it apart?

Toyota's trusted badge, longer battery warranty(8 years), buyback scheme, and that massive 543 km range on the top variant.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EBELLA Car FAQs

Exact variant-wise ex-showroom prices aren't out yet Toyota launched it today but said full pricing will come soon. Expect something around ₹18-25 lakh ex-showroom overall, with some reports pointing to ₹19-24 lakh on-road depending on trim and battery.
Toyota gives an 8-year warranty on the battery pack (both 49 kWh and 61 kWh LFP types). This is standard across variants. They also offer a 60% assured buyback scheme after a few years, plus the BaaS rental program to make ownership cheaper upfront if you don't want to own the battery forever.
Both are basically the same car underneath—shared platform, same batteries (49 kWh or 61 kWh), motors, range, features, and charging specs. The Ebella is Toyota's rebadged version with different front/rear styling (more Toyota hammerhead look), unique alloys, and possibly a red-black interior theme in some trims. Toyota adds the 8-year battery warranty, BaaS option, 60% buyback, and their service network (500+ EV-ready points). If you trust Toyota's long-term reliability, resale value, and after-sales more go for Ebella. If you want potentially lower price or Maruti's bigger network/dealer reach, wait for e-Vitara
ARAI-certified is up to 543 km on the 61 kWh battery (smaller 49 kWh around 440-450 km claimed). Real-world depends on driving. In city traffic in, expect 350-400 km from the big battery in mixed use
